[ QUOTE ] the bellagio's where the money is, and players follow the money. [/ QUOTE ] If I didn't suck at using the search engine, and was spiteful, I'd hunt down a post I made last spring-summerish where I quoted Erick Lindgren saying the exact same thing to Venetian management during an FHM photo shoot, followed by a bunch of "Oooooooo... Erick Lindgren said so, lol! V is GREAT! Bellagio SUCKS! Venetian will rule poker!" posts, just so I could say "I told you so", one year later. [/ QUOTE ] Here ya go. I'm just amazed that this thread has gone 5 pages without a single response from LasVegasMichael.

[ QUOTE ] I like that reduced rake. The Venetian has the nicest looking poker room in Las Vegas already. They should get a lot of new players there. [/ QUOTE ] yep, just the type of players I'm looking for in my games, players that know what the rake is.. oh wait, those are not the players i want to sit with.. pretty cool none-the-less.. [/ QUOTE ] Unreal...always someone to complain |

Five pages? You use threaded mode or something?
Anyways, since I was beckoned, I will comment on Venetian's new promo: Good for them. Interesting aggressive campaign. Hope it gets the results they are looking for. No one can doubt that they are working very hard to bring some bigger games to their room. They easily have the best tournament schedule in the city, and this promo looks like it will assist in pumping up the cash game action to match that of the touries. Like I said, I wish them the best. In general, I have avoided this thread, as LHE and timed collection (i.e. mid and high limit poker) are not my games, so this promotion does not affect me. Also, though I strongly feel that the Venetian Poker room is the best overall poker room in the country, it is no longer my home base casino. Late last year I started playing around town more often and checking out action (again) in some of the smaller rooms. Currently, I am playing at TI, and plan to stay there for a while (I like their 1/3 $500 max game). I still play at V every now and then, but just not exclusively. |

Its destined to fail, its the wrong solution for solving the problem. Not complaining would be the real waste of time, if you want the V's management to wake up and smell the coffee you should make your voice heard loud and clear. |

As an aside, and all extremely positive of views I hold of Venetian notwithstanding, I must say that I am VERY dissapointed that Rich Pullen is no longer a floorman there. I don't know the circumstances to which led to his departure (from what I hear, though, it was not pleasant), but he was a key reason why I really liked the room, aesthetics and comfort aside. Extremely personable, welcoming, and to the point. I don't know where he is now (he moved to Vegas from FW where he was a floor), but I would make it a point to give patronage to whatever poker room it is.

I was at the V for a couple days last week for the deep stack tourney and noticed Rich was nowhere to be found, and am sad to hear he's gone.
There were/are three people there who I gave mucho respect to while I worked there, and two of them are now gone, one being Rich, the other Joe Vargas (sp?) (tall guy, was a DC when the room first opened, came from Tunica, we called him Joey Vegas). Joe is a great talent and from the short time I worked with him I told people that he would be one of the not-so-distant-in-the-future great room managers in poker if he went for it. But I heard sometime last year he got fed up with the situation and left town, possibly back to Tunica. The only one left there that I'd recommend to anyone is Ari Mizrachi (day-time shift). Great guy who I feel is stuck where he is without much shot at upward mobility unless the V wakes up and cleans out Kathy. |

Now I'm not saying that your ridiculous, I'm saying we are all thinking incorrectly. Why do we want an experienced floorman as the big boss of a poker room? We should be expecting marketing, operations and management experts, the poker room director should rely on a junior director to manage the rules. Odd, this just dawned on me today - I have always thought the same as 52s but I just had an awakening. We expect people who are untrained in marketing to develop a poker room, isn't that silly? Kathy isn't a trained marketeer and she has no experience in a multi-room market. Relying on her guidance to fill the seats of the poker room is a huge mistake. I guess its possible to learn some marketing as time goes on in a floor person's career, but unless he is trained in operations and has a marketing person with poker experience with whom he can turn to then its a waste of time promoting a good floor man to an executive position. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think it's great that the Venetian is trying to obtain/bring back mid LHE. And, the reason you knock their promotion so much, I don't get. If you play NL, it doesn't affect you. If you play 8/16 - 60/120 its a great deal. I was there on Thursday and they had a jam-up 8/16 game and I was chatting with a couple of guys who said they were planning on playing 30/60 or 40/80 on Friday night (which is today, so we'll see if that really happens). Also, the room was pretty close to full spread, 30 something games on a Thursday isn't that bad. They must be doing something right. |
