the Algebra book would do the most for the common good

Why are people saying this?

Another algebra book is going to make a difference?

1 would be a complete bomb. 2 could potentially be good if you changed the title. 3 would be the only one i'd buy, and is the most appealing to poker players. 4 again would be a bomb. i'm not sure if 1 or 4 would sell less but i lean toward 1.

DS, go for the algebra book. If you're really as proficient in algebra instruction as you say you are (and I have no reason to doubt that you are), this book will help the most people and has the most noble end. The market is universal, and if it's done well, the work may become a must-read for aspiring young minds. Given the disparity in mathematical ability among individuals of all ages, you could attract thousands of brilliant 8-year-olds and many more less-than-brilliant adults.

the market is NOT universal. the market is for ambitious parents who would probably purchase the book in conjunction with giving their kids additional math tutoring / advanced classes. the only way that book will be successful is if its so good that it replaces currently used algebra textbooks. if you think a swarm of parents are gonna start buying this book to teach their 10 year olds algebra, you're wrong.

EXACTLY!

Who gives a [censored] if you can teach mentally retarded kids algebra?

It will make zero difference considering the fact that if a human isn't smart enough to learn an extremely simple subject like algebra, chances are VERY high he will never be in a position to use it the rest of his life anyways.

I'm sorry to say that there is some truth to this. The book I had in mind could not replace a textbook. It would be too easy and boring for anyone above average in math ability. It would greatly decrease the chances that less talented students would flunk the class if they used it as a supplement. And if that became known it would sell well. But it would not be suitable for brighter kids unless it was actually given to them when they were ten.

Does the above change anyone's mind?

algebra for 10 year olds for sure

I've tutored a lot of kids at that age and it's almost impossible to get them to understand what's going on. i mean you can teach them formulaic stuff like x + 37 = 74, so you subtract 37 from both sides, but then they are completely stumped when they see x+x for the first time, or even worse 3x = x + 16 solve for x. if you could write a book that could help kids get over that hurdle i would definitely recommend it.

How about an autobiography where you could talk about some of the different situations you have been in. Such as back alley games in 70's where the doorman had a machine gun or various other life stories that would be interesting. That is only if your life has really been that interesting.
