Though I guess they're really a late-80s band, I can't believe I haven't seen Jane's Addiction mentioned here.
If you like Pearl Jam/Soundgarden, you really should check out Mother Love Bone, and Temple of the Dog. |

Two pages and no one has mentioned Faith No More. Probably the most underrated rockband of the nineties.
Alice in Chains is a must. I suggest starting with Dirt. |
