I share in the amazement. Apparently he needed to spend about 10 minutes resting or buying refreshments, where walking at a 20min/mile pace during that time would have got him the win. Your friend is in horrible horrible shape. Kudos to you for recognizing just how bad.

The fact that he didn't even prepare by bringing water shows what kind of idiot this guy is.

Unless it was like 105 degrees I wouldn't need water for a freaking 5 mile walk, and I'm in terrible shape.

This is too funny. Next up we'll have a random powerlifting debate where you prop a skinny computer nerd he can't total 4x his bodyweight and I'm sure the same people will say "ZOMG your are burning money".

"Decent shape" refers to how he looks physically which is a poor indicator of athletic ability.

but there's no way you could do 5.2 at a walking pace in an urban or suburban environment.

[/ QUOTE ]

I offered to back my statement up, 5 miles in one hour walking. Ill be more than happy to accept any wagers

It would be pretty hard to tell when you've DQed by "jogging" and not walking. How do they do it for those retarded powerwalking races?

That's pretty awful. I looked up my time for a 5 mile race I did. 47:02, this was done extremely hung over, comeplete with the pounding headache and icepick behind the eye every time my left foot hit the pavement. Why was I running a 5 mile race in this condition? There was free beer at the end.

When I'm on the treadmill, the fastest I can walk is just under 4 MPH. Once I'm at 4 MPH or higher, I'm jogging or sprinting. I'm calling BS on the guy saying he can walk that distance in an hour.

Your 5.2 MPH pace is a jog....not a walk.

People walk different speeds... I walk 1.5km in 10 minutes, every single day, twice a day. That's 9km/h, or 5.6 mph. It would not be unreasonable for me to keep up that pace for an hour, since I'm not really straining myself.
