40 BI playing heads up is not at all unexpected.

Seriously, hov, stop playing HU - I'm doing the same, even after minor downswings. The variance is way more than you'd think at first - and I've probably played 20k hands of HU in the past year.

Poker is fun for ev'ryone
except my opponents
they shoulda practiced avoidance
They ain't big propents
in thinking not just in the moment
But the possible future problems
Sometimes 'comes tough to solve them
Then I go wake and to a dream I feel asleep and Spirit Rock fifteeen seconds with aces 'til they drop, until they drop
Poker is fun
for ev'ryone
except my opponents
they shoulda practiced avoidance

I've been going through this myself lately. I'm on such a downswing that most people say it couldn't possibly be just running bad. I tend to agree to some extent as although I've been running worse than most people would consider possible, I don't think it's been quite bad enough to explain the severe depth of my downswing.

Anyway, my point is this: the reason I'm more confident in my play than I should be given my results is threefold:
1) I play games where I have 100 buy-ins so that the downswings associated with my play don't affect my bankroll too severely.
2) If I feel I'm playing badly (make a bad push or a bad move) I pick up.
3) Poker isn't the center of my universe. I go to the gym every day, go out with friends most days of the week, read a lot, etc.

The fact is downswings happen and if you're approaching the game with the right mentality they won't bother you too much.

Sorry if any of this has already been said: I'm not really reading threads while playing but hope this helped.
