LOL, one of the worst lists of this sort I've ever seen. And for whoever said Alaska was awful, it is one of the best states easily.

Re: CallMeIshmael\'s \"The 50 Worst States in America\"
I did a 4000 mile road trip last summer through WA, OR, CA, ID, WY, MT, back through ID and home to WA. I think your top ten are pretty accurate. MT was my least favorite state, but Glacier NP was amazing. We were only in ID for hotel stops, but previous trips there make me think that 22 might be right.

Re: CallMeIshmael\'s \"The 50 Worst States in America\"

[ QUOTE ] How does Massachusetts beat out Hawaii? [/ QUOTE ] Hawaii loses moderate points for hurricane threats and just general out-in-the-middle-of-nowhereness... still better than most states [/ QUOTE ] From someone who grew up in Hawaii(but has never been to Mass.), one dig at Hawaii seems quite fair. Hawaii is small and isolated, and it's very common for people from "The Mainland" to get cabin-fever there. They get antsy and long for the ability to change the scene by driving somewhere; but in Hawaii, wherever you go, you're still there. There's not a whole continent spread before you. You'd have to experience it to know, but that takes a surprising amount of wind out of your lungs. The fact of racial prejudice and violence against white people being widely accepted takes some more wind out of the sails of most of its visitors and residents too. The hurricane threat is over-wrought. Lots of places have natural disasters/storms regularly. Tornados are scarier than typhoons(the tropical word for hurricanes) to me, after a lifetime to adulthood of growing up with typhoons. So are earthquakes, after 25 years of adulthood living with their threat in California. In fact, I miss typhoons, I honestly do! It's probably impossible to describe, or believe, how much. Nature seems alive and vibrant when it changes. If you're the religious type, God seems to clearly manifest himself. I'm not, so I don't know how to describe it. |
