yea, put Kurt Warner on the list but not Aikman, WELL DONE BRO
Brady is a great player, but this thread at this time is ridiculous, which is why I (and I guarentee a lot of others), will not waste my time arguing with a bunch of homers. |

Re: Tom Brady Best QB Ever!!!!!!
[ QUOTE ]
Do you really think the NFL would admit the refs blew the call and wrongly sent a team to the AFC championship game? [/ QUOTE ] yes, they've done it recently. anywho, I was drunk last night. here is what I should have said Simmons: Every time the Tuck Rule Game gets mentioned, three other things should also be mentioned: First, Gruden had second-and-3 to close out the game, ran the ball twice up the middle, didn't get the three yards, then punted on fourth-and-inches. If they had gotten those three yards, Brady never gets the ball back. Everyone seems to forget this. And second, on the famous play, WOODSON CHOPPED BRADY IN THE HEAD TO CAUSE THE FUMBLE!!! Not only is that illegal, it's one of the few guaranteed "we're calling that every time" whistles in football. Everyone forgets this, too. And third, not only was the rule interpreted correctly, but they voted on keeping it at the next Rules Committee Meeting. To recap: Raiders fans have spent the last four years complaining about a play in which (A) their player should have been penalized, (B) the rule was interpreted correctly, and (C) it never should have happened in the first place because their coach choked away a second-and-3 situation and lacked the testicular fortitude to go for it on fourth down. Those are the facts. If you want to keep complaining, so be it. |

Re: Tom Brady Best QB Ever!!!!!!
Assani:
First of all, welcome to the new millenium. Your traditional football statistics are obsolete and, though it may take some time, will eventually go the way of RBI and Batting Average. Resistance is futile. (Seriously, though, that's a pretty goddamn cool site, and you should check it out.) Second, you say that winning champiopships is the most important measure of a QB's success, and by that measure I could see how you might say Brady is the best ever. But why? Football isn't an individual sport. It's not even a team sport like basketball, in which one great player can carry a merely competent supporting cast to a title. The QB, though the most important player on the field, is still just one of 22 starters, he doesn't play special teams, and he's not part of the huge coaching and training staffs that NFL teams employ. In fact, even saying that he's just one out of 22 understates the number of contributors. Teams need production from the aforementioned special teams, from specialists like slot WRs, blocking TEs, pass-rushing DEs, and nickel and dime DBs. And, this being football, they always need plenty of qualified injury replacements. So, yes, Manning and the Colts have not had a lot of postseason success. But how much of that is Peyton Manning's fault, and how much has to do with the fact that they've faced some excellent teams in the postseason (being knocked out by the eventual champ three years in a row)? How much of it has to do with the fact that the Colts' defense only last year reached the status of "above-average"? It's hard to say, but we do have a boatload of statistics that can help us sort through these questions, and every one of them says that Peyton Manning has been superb, even in the postseason. Brady's statistics suggest that he's been a somewhat less superb player on somewhat superior teams. I don't know, maybe you can just see something in these QBs' performances that I can't, but both the numbers and my eyes tell me that if you replaced Tom Brady on the Pats with Peyton Manning, or Daunte Culpepper, or maybe even Trent Green, the Pats probably would have had a similar level of success over the past five years, while Brady probably would have been unable to carry those players' teams to championships. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] So, yes, Manning and the Colts have not had a lot of postseason success. But how much of that is Peyton Manning's fault [/ QUOTE ] An awful lot. [/ QUOTE ] Prove it. [/ QUOTE ] Do a search on this forum, it's been discussed ad nauseum. He's buried his team with poor performance after poor performance in their elimination games. The Colts D has consistently provided him ample opportunity to get them to the Super Bowl and he's blown it time and time again. See last year's aborted comeback, the joke of a first half, the previous year's abortion of a game against NE where they couldn't get a first down and Mr. 49 TD's was lucky to not get shut out, or the previous year where they were in it and again the high powered Colts offense squandered a good defensive effort that despite their offensive ineptitude kept them in the game until the 2nd half. On an unrelated note, I'd also like to note that Tee Martin says hi. |
