Re: Movies That Made You Cry Like a Girl
On Borrowed Time - 1934 – Memorable performances by Lionel Barrymore & Sir Cedric Hardwicke and a terrific screenplay. They don’t make movies like this anymore.
The Burmese Harp – 1956 – An absolute gem of a film by Japanese director Kon Ichikawa. Conveys the horror of war in a gentle, but profoundly touching manner. Field of Dreams – 1989 – We all have fathers, and some of us have sons. In either case, it’s virtually impossible for tears not to well up during the last scene. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - 2001 – The sheer scope and lyricism of some of the scenes in this film can literally take one’s breath away. The timeless theme of unrequited love is portrayed so well it is difficult not to shed a tear for all of mankind. Old Yeller – 1957 – Saw it in the movie theater as a child. Need I say more? Big Fish – 2003 – My 15 year old daughter saw it, and then said that I should also. I did (with her), and the tears flowed. The Green Mile – 1999 – The portrayal of one man carrying so much of the weight of the world on his shoulders is such a sad thought........ ...and I would agreed with swede123’s post earlier about ‘Band of Brothers’ as that was my late father’s company during WWII, and it brings back the little that he told me about the horror that he experienced. He couldn’t really articulate it all that well, but as I grow older, I believe I understand it more & more. |

[ QUOTE ] lost in translation [/ QUOTE ] Jeez, I have to watch some of these movies again - what part of Lost? [/ QUOTE ] the end. I've met a few girls for a week or so, gotten really close with them, and never saw them again so it resonates with me pretty strongly. I'm getting more brandy. |

LOL I know the feeling on both counts. There were actually a lot of real heart-tugging moments in that movie.
People can actually give a lot to each other in a very short period of time. |

Re: Movies That Made You Cry Like a Girl
I can't remember ever crying at a film - I'm probably just repressing it - but The Green Mile, The Life Aquatic w/Steve Zissou, and Koyaanisqatsi have brought me closest.

McCabe & Mrs. Miller is a good one. The Leonard Cohen songs add so much to it, too. There's a lot of sadness and loneliness in that movie, a lot of life knowledge, that most movies don't express.

[/ QUOTE ] Koy[...] was devastating when it first came out. People were completely blown away. It's been copied so many times in so many ways by now that it would be hard to view it now with nearly the same effect, but this is one that also really benefitted from the big screen. |
