Any future plans on hard covers and thinner pages for easier readibility and durability, a la LGB?

I actually like the quality of the paper & bindings of 2+2 books. I've read Small Stakes Hold'em, Theory of Poker and Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players at least 3 times each, and have gone over important sentances in each with highlighter. So far I've had no cracking or loose pages, but more importantly (for ME, at least) there has been no soak-through of the highlighter ink from one side of the paper to the other.

Highlighter soak-through drives me crazy. Crazy. I'm talking postal worker on PCP, beat people to death with a frozen salmon CRAZY. But I've been very happy with the quality of 2+2 books so far.

As I recall, I started a thread in this very forum thanking Mason for using quality paper, for this very reason.

As for hard-backs, I doubt we'll ever see any. Trade paperback is perfect for the market 2+2 is selling to. If anything, we perhaps could ask for "Limited Edition" versions of very popular books.

Say, folio size, hard cover, limited run of 1000 at $49.99 each, with 200 autographed copies at $99.99 each.

Even then, I bet the only one popular enough to create the nessasary demand would be Theory of Poker.

Hi Everyone:

We use better paper than any other publisher in our field, and because of this we pay more for printing.

As for other type of limited printing with special binding, there's no way that will happen. Due to the demand for our books, it's difficult enough to get all our printing done on a timely basis. Adding additional small printings would overwhelm us.

Best wishes,
Mason

About a year ago someone posted about getting their TOP spiral bound at Kinko's or something. They had pics and all and it looked liked a really good setup. Just an idea for anyone who is wearing the binding out.

Phy - I agree, I like the paper 2+2 uses and I can see why the various limited edition formats would be overwhelming for them to try to produce (although I'd be up for the $99.99 edition of everything they put out if they ever did go that road).

I assume the reason why Mason hasn't ever done a hardcover edition for his titles is that while some of us would enjoy it -- and would pay $10-$20 or whatever extra per book for it -- that it wouldn't be enough customers to warrant the work / printing costs associated with it.

After all, these are effectively textbooks and I imagine a vast majority of people don't consider themselves collectors of 2+2 and just want the information -- regardless of what form it comes in.

Others of us were twitching until we had our 1st printing of Sklansky on Razz.

That extra pay wouldn't be nearly $10-$20 - especially with thinner and more reader friendly (but not crayon friendly) paper. There are plenty of poker books with hard covers.

I noticed the high quality paper. It definitely helps so that highlighters and such don't bleed through.

for those who want a more durable book

it's only about $6 to take a 2p2 book to kinkos, have the binding cut-off, and get it spiral bound with a hard front and back that preserves the pages inside and makes it easy to flip pages and leave the book open to a certain page.

I forget who to give credit for this idea, but some helpful 2p2ers had a thread with pics. It is definitely worth the money if you use the books as much as I do.

One problem with spiral bound is that pages rip out easier. Does the hard front and back prevent that? How?
