I watched a SRV show once where he dissed Hendrix. That's enough for me to boycott lol.

He went something like, "why would I want to be a pop star like Hendrix, when I can do THIS" and start something wack...

My fav Hendrix album right now is either South Satern Delta or First Rays, prolly the latter. It was Bold as Love for a really long time but you know, ppl grow up lol

Did you ever listen to Cream? The band with Clapton. That band has to be in my top 5 rock bands of all time that's for sure!

[/ QUOTE ]

I really doubt SRV was dissing Hendrix. His whole style was built on Hendrix. Maybe you just misinterpreted his words. Or maybe it was during his drug/alcohol addiction years where he would often be completely wasted on stage. Check out the SRV version of Little Wing.

And yea, Cream is good. I'm also really into Clapton when he was with the Bluesbreakers. And more recently, his Unplugged album has some great songs on it.

Hell yea Jay. These are two of their most popular, commercial though, I don't think they are THAT much representative but seriously, there's not one Cream song that isn't great! Did you ever heard Badge? That's one of their known too. Both their official records are must-have IMO!

I know about half of those, I'll be seeing Battles and Sonic Youth at the Pitchfork Festival next month (woot). Btw, Jason Molina of Songs:Ohia is cool, I talked with him for awhile about Scout Niblett after a recent solo show of his.

[/ QUOTE ]
Nice! I saw him a couple of weeks ago, but didn't get a chance to talk to him. They put him in a room that was a bit too big for him. He would've benefited from a more intimate atmosphere. As is, the band tried to rock too much too fill the room. Just an okay concert, not great.

Battles is awesome. They really rocked the place when I saw them. They managed to get about 300 people in the small room despite not even having an album out.

I *just* found out Sonic Youth is playing the Lowlands festival this year. I was literally jumping up and down with excitement for a good minute there. You have no idea how long I've been wanting to see them.

Should I go and see Scout Niblett? Apparently she's playing here in Paradiso in two days. Only 6 bucks, so I might just go and see if she's any good.

(Edit: listened to a little bit of hers. I think you'd like Soccer Committee and Anna Ternheim as well.)

Scout is great, you should check out a split 7" she and Songs:Ohia did with his song Lioness and her song Miss My Lion. It's out there on [censored]. I'd seen Songs:Ohia once in concert, and Jason had been strangely combative (especially for a little guy who sings soft songs) and kept flipping a guy in the audience off. That was why I approached him at his solo show, to ask him why he'd done that, and I guess some guy was shining a laser in his eyes throughout the show so he was pissed.

As for Sonic Youth, did you know they are performing all of Daydream Nation from start to back at the Pitchfork Fest?? Going to be ridiculous.

Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out.
