Re: The Well: TheMetetron
Hey Metetron, thanks for doing this!
Do you think the blanket disdain that 2p2 feels towards any preflop limping whatsoever is irrational? You are in a spot where a passive line and an aggressive line have the same immediate EV. The passive line is lower variance, the aggressive line helps your image a little but at the cost of variance. Which line do you usually take? How often do you check-call to the river with one-pair-ish hands OOP? Do you think that a huge WWSF% is the 'new trend' that most of the regulars have taken on board? I play very tight. At 200NL and lower, I find that most of the ~22/20 regs, who would otherwise be winning a little money off me, make huge mistakes versus me in big pots. For example habitually committing with AK preflop when I 3bet them even though I have been very inactive, or committing on dry boards with an overpair even though I have not been check-raising light, etc. It's like they just bin me as "2p2 Tag", and assume that I make all the plays that 2p2 Tags are making on average, without really adapting to my specific ranges. Do you get a lot of these donations at higher stakes too, or do the regs start to tone down their ranges versus you? Do you vary your preflop raise sizes? What VPIP constitutes a "loose" player at the stakes you play? Finally, do you realise that Star City (Sydney's casino) really sucks balls for Texas Holdem? The rake is $1/hand for the 200NL game(!) |

Re: The Well: TheMetetron
Sorry if these are too similar to anyone else's Q's, I briefly skimmed the thread.
1: How do you go about reviewing hands? I remember playing with you at 1/2 6m late 2006 early 2007 and I remember you being pretty nitty/tight. I assume you've loosened up since then. Do you write down interesting hands as you play and look them over later? Do you do much pokerstove analysis? Talking to friends about hands over AIM? 2: (No offense intended here) Do you feel your reputation on 2p2 has helped or hindered you through your poker career? Ive seen you post a few times in MSNL and the general reception seems overly negative (I think the same could be said for myself). Do you think people are less inclined to help you (not sure if you post hands) because they dislike you? If your SN is public, do you think people play differently against you because of your "2p2 image"? |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] What degree of attention do you think is enough to win at a table? How many tables do you usually play? [/ QUOTE ] Not sure I really understand the first part. Around 5-6 usually. [/ QUOTE ] Questioning it other way. How much do you think your game deteriorates from 1 table to 6 tables? (I am asking this, because sometimes I'm not sure if I'm playing too many tables.) Thanks [/ QUOTE ] I think this really depends on how comfortable you are with the stakes, game, and players you are playing against. I don't think I lose much by going from say 2 to 6 tables in my regular games, but when I was first starting to play them, I think I lost a lot more. Now of course I lose something by playing more tables but I think I'm way more than adequately compensating for it via a higher hourly. It's a person thing on when the limit is and it can change over time. If you think you might be playing too many tables, chances are you probably are. |

Hey Metetron, thanks for doing this! Do you think the blanket disdain that 2p2 feels towards any preflop limping whatsoever is irrational? [/ QUOTE ] I tend to agree with it outside of HU play. I just can't fathom reasonable times for doing that play. [ QUOTE ] You are in a spot where a passive line and an aggressive line have the same immediate EV. The passive line is lower variance, the aggressive line helps your image a little but at the cost of variance. Which line do you usually take? [/ QUOTE ] Same EV? Give me the passive line and lower variance. Neither helps my image more than the other. It just gives me a different image. You just need to be able to work correctly around the image people have of you. Most people who play against me regularly would probably think I'm not a tough player in the least to play against and am for the most part too straightforward. I am fine with this image as it is in reality very far from how I actually play, but it allows me to pull a lot of moves with a huge EV expectation. Now, some of my opponents have caught on to this and the ones that have, I tend to just tighten back up and get value from them with made hands. Any image can be worked with, you just need to figure out what people think of you and differ from that just enough to make value. [ QUOTE ] How often do you check-call to the river with one-pair-ish hands OOP? [/ QUOTE ] I have absolutely no idea how to quantify this. I definitely do it. [ QUOTE ] Do you think that a huge WWSF% is the 'new trend' that most of the regulars have taken on board? [/ QUOTE ] Clearly I'm not in the now as I have no idea how this would work out. I think trying to tailor your play to get correct numbers is just a horrible idea and completely the wrong way to go about this game. Play correctly, the numbers will match. [ QUOTE ] I play very tight. [/ QUOTE ] I get free money from regs too though perhaps not in the same way. Most people don't adjust at all or if they do they do so incorrectly. [ QUOTE ] Do you vary your preflop raise sizes? [/ QUOTE ] No. [ QUOTE ] What VPIP constitutes a "loose" player at the stakes you play? [/ QUOTE ] You mean as far as a fish? Over 35 or so. [ QUOTE ] Finally, do you realise that Star City (Sydney's casino) really sucks balls for Texas Holdem? The rake is $1/hand for the 200NL game(!) [/ QUOTE ] Did not know this but I have no intention of playing poker live when I live in Sydney. Good for me I guess. |

Re: The Well: TheMetetron
I'll get to more questions after eating and playing for a bit.
Also a note on coaching. I'm in the middle of doing these first 2 students and it is becoming obvious that it is going to take much closer to 3 hours and possible 3.5 for each of these videos to get done. As such either the minimum order for hours is going to increase to approximately what it takes me to do 2 videos or I am simply going to start charging a flat fee. I'm leaning towards a flat fee of $1,000 for a video review which would take me between 3 and 4 to complete. I could rush it in closer to 3 but I don't think the finished product would be nearly as good as if I spent a bit more time on it. Nothing will be decided until I get these test videos done however and see how the whole process works out. |

Re: The Well: TheMetetron
I'm interested in reraised pots...
Say you have AK on the BB, TAG CO ( no reads ) opens for 4BB, you raise to 13BB and he calls, Flop comes Q 8 6 rainbow, do you cbet this? If you check and he bets the pot do you give up right there? If you cbet and he flat calls, do you check/fold the turn? |
