[ QUOTE ] harshly prejudging a man based “solely” upon body art, regardless of how personally offensive you may find it, is an uncomfortably short step from condemning him due to preconceived notions concerning skin color, religion, or nationality. [/ QUOTE ] wait what? Are you a real person with a real brain? How can anyone think this stuff? WHERE DO YOU PEOPLE COME FROM AND WHY WON'T YOU GO AWAY? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I'm not AT ALL understanding the folks who keep trying to equate voluntarily tatooing neo-nazi crap to your body, and having Mexican pride or being Jewish. Get a grip, people. My own take is the guy can play if he behaves but he starts with two strikes against him. He gets a short leash and the first nasty comment or implied threat and he's out. Yes, he may have changed and seen the error of his ways. Or he may have felt compelled to get covered in tats and never believed what's implied by his skin. Fine...I'll grant he may not be what he appears. But he best behave like a saint. |

I played at the same table with this guy before at the mirage in a 5-10nl game, the funny thing about it he was with a friend who was a latino 18th street gang member from what I could tell by his tats. So he cant be that racist the whole nazi thing was most likely a prision thing.

This thread has been an interesting read...
If you were to call the floor to have someone removed for an offensive tattoo, then a can of worms has been opened. I have seen ppl with offensive tattoos on their face b4, so does this mean that the individual with the off. tat.(which cannot be covered or disguised), cannot go to any public place because it may offend ppl? I think you guys should sense where I'm going with this... |

Do you people not understand that a tattoo is a voluntary thing? Do you not understand that when you choose to adorn your body with something patently offensive you lose much of your ability to socialize?
Guys, you have the right to put on your body whatever you want or wear whatever you want. What you don't have the right is to expect anyone to associate with you after putting obviously racist, bigoted garbage on your person. While you can't be thrown in jail, nobody has to do business with you. The bill of rights applies specifically to the government. And yes, it is very important for philosophical reasons to protect the free speech rights of those with minority opinions. But when it comes to interacting in public spheres, their presence does harm to so many people that if you extend "rights" to the idea that people entering a place of business should feel as if they are free from threats, offensive material targeting their race, etc., this is an easy slam dunk decision: Get out of the cardroom. You are free to disagree with this but please stop trying to say that banning someone from a cardroom because of racist artwork is the same as because they are a particular race or have a tattoo of a particular country. I mean, at least come with some semiinteresting piece on semiotics. -Michael |

[/ QUOTE ] i'll not waste my time reading the rest of your rant when you start off with such a terrible analogy. how can i trust your logic when this is how you think? body art that someone voluntarily gets and displays is in no way comparable to race or nationality, which are not determined by choice. religious followers, while eventually practicers by their own accord, typically are introduced by their parents. beyond the means by which someone becomes a member of a race, nationality or religion, the desire to express beliefs associated with these things is entirely separate from the membership itself. while your last example is a stronger hobbling crutch, you'd do well to find at least one solid example rather than two terrible ones and one mediocre one. |
