ZJ,

If I bet that turn, I am calling with any ace 100% of the time. However, I (usually - I may bet with a read like you had) check something like AT and down. It helps that I am fairly sure he bluffs this river if he whiffs.

I don't like betting the turn with A8. You have a medium strength hand. You need to control the size of the pot. You probably only get action if you are behind. I would let villain do the betting and just call.

Mark Newhouse raises to $2,800 preflop and Michael Mizrachi moves all in for around $25,000. Newhouse makes the call and shows 88. Mizrachi turns over AK but the board comes 855107. Newhouse flops a full house and wins the pot, eliminating Mizrachi from the tournament.

Who among you make this call?

depends how many chips i have, position, etc. if i'm utg and Mizrachi is utg+1 i probably fold. if i'm m/lp and Mizrachi is behind me i almost always call.

If this is the $10k buyin tournament, and not the $2k as the thread title says, Newhouse was two seats to the left of the Grinder, although I was not there for this hand so I don't know where the button was. Blinds at the time were 500-1000 I think.

This hand is from the 10K event and is totally unrelated to ZJ's original post, which was from the 2K event.

If the action is correct, Grinder had to of been in the blinds then w/ Mark UTG/UTG+1.

Hi ZJ,

What are your thoughts on reraising the flop? Not standard, but as you said, your range is mostly trip Aces when you call his raise, and only bad players don't know this. From my perspective, A8 is really nice against his range on the flop, even if we know he has trips as well, since the bigger aces would quite possibly have reraised (though it's not certain, obv) pre-flop. Reraising also puts a little mystery into your range; I can see someone folding A9 or calling with TT at times here. I don't expect live unknowns to jam the flop with 23/34d, so that comes mostly out of the equation; if he shoves over your raise, you can put him on trips+ almost 100%. With A8, I'd be willing to get it in against the table captain who just showed up and can't get close to busted by losing this hand. Too risky?

Last thought is that if you were a cyborg while he was testing you, he probably read that as confidence, which is trouble when he shoves, especially since he already tentatively puts you on an ace.

Haven't read all of th replies yet trying to keep my mind fresh here but I'll read it through after I post. Given the betting action I can't imagine him being worse than AJ, maybe A10. AK,AQ reraises PF and an A weak kicker would be a bit crazy to keep firing after you continue to fire. Unless he reads you as some crazy kid firing with a pocket pair, I gotta give him credit for A10,AJ, maybe A5s. That being said,
1:A10
2:A9
3,4: all day long

Still new to these discussions so any critique would be appreciated.

Miami John is real loose and the chance to accumulate so many chips with your style here really pushes it towards a call with trips. Just his looseness probably makes this a call in itself with +EV. His all in bet is a little large and doesnt look like it wants action to me.

that is tough, A10o if probably the minimum hand he doesnt reraise with preflop with his stack. This leaves only A10o, A9o, A5 that beat you IMO

I'm super tight on the turn here and would check behind and looking for showdown. The pot is big enough for one hand. If you have Ace rag and river is a face card, it's good for a call on the river.
