stupid ass but failing that, you should have tried to get him on your side and apologized for your mom. "Sorry man, she shouldn't have flipped you off, but are you seriously threatening my mom? How would you feel if someone threatened your mom? Let's just forget about this, ok?" Get him to be om your side. Getting his liscence plate # was good here. Overall, this is a VERY marginal situation. This dude probably doesn't have a means of getting any info about you from your mom's plates. City employees lose their jobs for violating anyone's privacy. MAYBE he has an ex gf who would risk it for him, but even if that's the case: what's he REALLY gonna do? You think he goes around killing everyone that flips him off? That's really doubtful. If he had that much initiative, he wouldn't be driving such a crummy automobile.
