So I came home today and turned on the TV which was still on NESN from the night before. Anyways, it's 1-0 in the top of the ninth with Papelbon on the mound so I figure it's last night's highlights. Red Sox win and the highlights start... Manny HR? Josh Beckett with 8 shutout innings?

lol

First time in 16 years the Sox have won back to back 1-0 games. Btw, at his press conference Tito announced the Sox signed Becket to a 3 year extension somewhere around the 5th inning. Everyone laughed. Only thing he wasn't joking. The Sox have signed him to a 3 year extension. The 5th inning part however may have been Tito's attempt at humor.

It depends on the cost. Remember the gave up Hanley Ramirez who is looking great and Annibel Sanchez who i thought was just a throw in but just today he threw 1 hit shut out ball. So it would be a travesty to let Becket walk after 1 year.

Grrr, I've been home (and awake!) all afternoon, and forgot they had a day game.

he has been really unlucky IRT HR's (unluckiest in AL). when you 'normalize' his HR rate he is a top 25 pitcher in the AL.

king felix has been another one victimized by long ball misfortune.

fwiw, lester should enter the WSOP.

per gordon edes:

[ QUOTE ]
$2 million signing bonus
$6 million salary for 2007
$9.5 million salary for 2008
$10.5 million salary for 2009

$12 million at club option for 2010. The option becomes automatic if Beckett makes 28 starts in 2009 or he has a total of 56 starts in 2008 and 2009.

[/ QUOTE ]

theo yet again proves he is the best GM in the AL east.

~6 months ago AJ burnett gets 11m a year and is 3 years older.

"yeah, i guess i do pwn!"

I don't know why you'd think this, Sanchez was considered one of the better pitching prospects in baseball at the time and certainly wouldn't have been ranked much lower than Hanley on any list. I'm sure some would've taken Sanchez over Hanley.

At the time of the trade, the talk was that Sanchez was a prospect but was in the 2nd line of Sox pitching prospects so I always viewed him as a kind of sweetener or throwin to the deal.

That he is already in the majors let alone having success at this level has surprised me.

He was maybe considered second tier to Lester, Hansen and Papelbon but he was always viewed as having front of the rotation potential. I think he was considered top 50 prospect at the time of the trade.
