Re: *official 2007 red sox thread*
It occurred to me that this game was a throwaway game. Tavarez starting against Haren. Lowell, Lugo and Tek sitting. Flying cross-country after an 8:00 night game. They're trying to translate this loss into more wins down the road. I'm OK with it.

It occurred to me that this game was a throwaway game. Tavarez starting against Haren. [/ QUOTE ] It reminded me off that game in Minny about a month ago (Tavarez vs. Santana, and the Sox had a depleted bullpen). No way you really expect to win it, but then Johan is off and Julian is on, and they had multiple chances to steal it. But they left a ton of guys on base, and ended up losing by one. You can comfort yourself by saying it was closer than expected, but in the end, an L is an L. [ QUOTE ] Lowell, Lugo and Tek sitting. [/ QUOTE ] The thing is, those guys all ended up playing, as did Crisp and four relievers. Considering the physical and emotional expenditure, the worry becomes that the *next* game might be the bounce. [ QUOTE ] Flying cross-country after an 8:00 night game. They're trying to translate this loss into more wins down the road. I'm OK with it. [/ QUOTE ] I'm fine with it, too, because I love the way this team is playing. All the factors you mention- and unlike the Santana game, Haren was fu*king nasty- they could have mailed it in, but instead they fight to the end. Seeing them hugging outside the dugout after getting out of the no-out bases loaded jam in the ninth was a great moment, especially considering it was 1 a.m. here (and even more especially, knowing they had a 10 game lead even if they lost) . |

Meh. I went to bed around the 4th inning or so. I didn't know those three guys ended up playing after all.
Dice-K better be on tonight. |

Chavez rocked that ball.
Love it when they play the As because I get to watch the games. The As have a great broadcast booth (Fosse and Kuiper), too. |
