Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
Every time they show David Wells tossin balls he looks absolutely horrible. He's wearing that giant brace, he looks so overweight, and I can't help but think, "That guy thinks he's going to play again!?"

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
In a chat this week, Bill Simmons was asked to pick a winner, and the first words out of his mouth were, "The Red Sox don't have enough."
I think they've got a great shot. Am I delusional? |

[/ QUOTE ] Are we talkin about the World Serious here? I think Boston, NY, Chicago all have a decent chance to get out of the AL. If we face the Mets w/ home field I like our chances NT |

Re: *Red Sox thread* News, views, and love for the front office
Derek (Boston, Ma): As it stands right now, who's your pick for the team to win it all in MLB?
Bill Simmons: Well, we know it's going to be an AL team since the NL has basically become Quadruple-A. The Red Sox don't have enough. Neither do the Yankees. The Tigers should fade. The Angels are legitimately scary, but I'm not totally sold on their offense. I think it's going to be the ChiSox again, that's just an awesome team, I can't get over that 3-4-5. Only Ozzie turning into Billy Martin circa 1978 is going to stop them. |

[censored] awesome double play by A-Gon aka the Garden Worm. He's hitting David Wells' weight too! NT [/ QUOTE ] I know Pedroia's in the wings but I see no reason not to re-sign Agon to a 2 to 3 year contract extension. I could live with this guy if he were hitting .230. The fact that he's hitting is just gravy. He's by far the best defensive SS the Sox have ever had. |

Alex Gonzalez is a career .247/.294/.392 hitter and Baseball Prospectus has him as an average defensive shortstop at best by Rate. I realize the Red Sox are short on middle infield prospects, and that Pedroia may never play shortstop in the big leagues, but I find it hard to believe that a big market team like Boston would have to stick with A-Gonz for a long time. |

[/ QUOTE ] I agree with this (that the Red Sox will settle for an all-field, no hit shortstop), but disagree that he is "average at best" defensively. sometimes I just have trouble with those defensive measures. I know that eyes can decieve and all, but if a guy makes basically every single play that he is supposed to, and gets to lots of balls and makes plays that most guys can't, then I don't see how he can be average. |
