Katja Thater -- Who the hell is she and why is she so nonplussed?

Here's my Katja Thater WSOP story.

I was behind her, with about 60 people behind me, squeezing through a bunch of people on both sides of the rail, heading toward the exit. She stopped in the middle, blocking all traffic going both ways, to talk to some guy going the other way. After waiting a few seconds, I said "Excuse me", she looked back at me, rolled her eyes, and kept standing there talking to the guy for at least 30 seconds. Then they finally got out of the way. Nice.

By the way, anyone who takes down O'Niel in a lowball game when he is the dominating leader is pretty cool in my book. Katja played very well in that tournament from reading through the hand histories. A++

I heard different from some top Razz players who sweated the event...however they did say they could see her being a relentless NL player.

Kassin has always been my favorite, although I liked her small rack. Oh well, they can't take that tremendous beautiful butt away from her.

Wow, this thread is really amazing. Most posters here seem to like and respect Katja Thater. In Germany her image is quite different. If you read german poker forums you find that to many Germans Katja comes across as horribly arrogant wannabe poker pro.

I lived in Germany when Boris Becker was at the peak of his career and a large number of Germans did not like him and went out of their way to criticze him in every way possible. This despite the fact that he was the best male tennis player to come out of that country (well, West Germany at the time).

Read the Brandi/Vanessa threads to see that people are motivated more often to take the time to slam someone then to praise them. Especially if they are jealous of her success.
