![]() i was just at the bellagio playing poker during the contest. kenny tran hustled more than a half dozen ppl (including myself) into taking kobayashi with no odds. i bet him $100 just for fun, but he took almost $3k of action from others, including $500 on over-56. pretty exciting battle though; the whole room was rooting for chestnut to puke. |

All,
Wow. I knew Kobayashi was going to show up ready to battle and would crack 60. But 66 for Joey? Wow. |

I was really worried that the injury would prevent Kobayashi from giving Chestnut a good run, but what a match! When Kobayashi started to narrow the lead to less than a dog towards the end (at least on the unofficial score), I really thought Kobayashi was going to make a last minute run and win by a dog. An incredible display of heart by both competitors. Maybe next year we'll see 70? |

slick, Kobayashi is breaking 70 next year. Guaranteed. [/ QUOTE ] I hope you're right and we get to see at least a couple more years of this great rivalry. There are so many question marks between now and then: - Can Kobayashi get back to 100%, or will this injury nag him for the rest of his career? - Can Chestnut handle the distractions that come with being champion: the interviews, the fame, the prestige, the groupies? - Will another eater come out of the woodwork like Kobayashi did in 2001 and surprise everyone? - Will competitive eating be able to avoid performance enhancing scandals? I can't wait for next year. |

This is from the front page of sfgate website. Look on the counter-girls (or whatever their called) face is classic. Pretty much sums up how I feel watching highlights of this stuff.

Just a magnificient performance by Chestnut. ED, I know you and others really thought Koby was going to pull this one out (as did I), but you have to give credit to Chestnut. He was able to overcome the psyche job, and set a new world record in the process. This was an extremely clutch victory. Koby didn't look right, but I admire his guts for competing while injured. I think he'll be looking at 70 next year for sure. |

I don't think 70 is going to happen next year. It's just too tough. 68-69, maybe. I think we might see 70 by the end of this decade, but 66 was so incredible, I don't think that will get broken next year.
This year was Chestnut's year- he's been devouring the IFOCE circuit. He came in with something to prove and finally gave Koby someone to push him. It was a near-perfect day in terms of weather. Try eating 60+ dogs on a 90+ degree day- it just won't happen. Eating 66 dogs in 12 mins is eating each dog in just over 10 seconds- there isn't much room to improve over that. Just my two cents, but I'd bet the house we won't see 70 next year. |
