I disagree with people saying things like "Stealing is wrong. It's immoral to keep the money. The end." I think it's dangerous to have an ethics system that deems every action that triggers one of their morality keywords to be absolutely wrong, with no need for discussion or consideration of context.

I completely agree, its a weakness in life to just see everything in black and white

Don't you guys ever read the zoo?

Every once in a while some degen will post about how a website made a mistake in his favor and he gambooled it away, then they handed it over to collection agencies who started taking legal action and he's screwed. An American would probably be harder to prosecute for this type of crime, but I think you could say bye-bye to your account once it was discovered.

A general rule of recieving payments:
If someone makes a mistake in your favor, you aren't automatically entitled to the loot.

OP made the right choice.

I have the perfect answer, but it depends how much you have left on the site. If the answer is 0$, I suggest this:

1) take the 1500$ to a casino, put it on black

a) if you win, send them back 1500$, you keep 1500$
b) if you lose, bah it wasn't your money anyways !

[/ QUOTE ]

Somehow this actually makes karmic sense, in a degen sort of way

Final Results: Hero Folds

As i stated earlier i called support and even emailed them about what had happened yesterday, and I thought my conscience would be cleared after pointing them in the right direction, but at the same time not giving too much info away. I was wrong. Anyway, this part is actually kind of funny, support diconnected my phone calls 3 times this morning before finally giving me a chance to tell them that i want to give them 1500.00. lol. yes i actually was put on hold multiple times and hung up on during my quest to give back their cash. What i was really upset about was that when i finally got through to their payment department, and the issue was cleared, i was not even told thank you. As the deuche i was talking to was about to hang up on me i asked him if i could be given some kind of bonus or reward. He hesitated as he began to think. finally he said yes. And I got 25 bones. sweet.

2 stories from last year.

Woke up one morning with 600 in my epassporte acct so I went to transaction details to see where it came from. It said I had a FTP withdrawl that morning, when it had been exactly a month since I made a FTP cash out. Sweet! Free money! Deposit my free monies into FTP and donk it off in an hour or 2. Next day I check my epassporte acct to see if theres another free 600 in there. Nope it's -$600. I call them up playing dumb, what is this neg balance, and how is it possible? They said they had a glitch where all transactions from exactly 1 month ago were reposted the day before, and I now owe them $600, and according to there T+C I had to pay it back immediatly or they would just charge it to my bank card and close my account. So I deposited 600 and my new balance was 0.

I'm at the dog track, walk up to a self betting machine to see a 500 voucher in it. I take it and stand there for like 5 minutes waiting for some schmuck to come running looking for his lost voucher, so I can give it to him and get my handshake and possible reward! No one shows up so I say F it and go cash it with a teller. A couple horse races later its all gone and as I'm walking out I'm stopped by security. They take me in a back room and say we know you're the one who stole a voucher and I need to pay it back now. I said I didn't steal anything, and if they are referring to the voucher I found, it's gone. The douche who lost it is standing there lying his ass off saying he turned his head for one sec while he was standing at the machine and I came by and swiped it. I say whatever go look at the security tapes I didnt steal anything. Of course the machine in question is out of the cameras range according to them. I say I'm not paying it back because I didn't appreciate how they handled the whole thing, if they asked if I found it I would have returned the monies, but not now. I try leaving and security guard draws his gun and throws me back into the corner and says if I dont pay it back right now I'm heading to jail. WTF. I'm scared now so I cave and they follow me to the ATM, I withdraw 500, tell them to give me a receipt and I'll pay it back. They wont give me one saying why would we give you a receipt for something you stole. Whatever. I get all there names, pay them the monies and drive straight to the police station and file a report. The next day I go back to the track to file an official complaint with the same operations manager. On my way out I see a teller I know and she asks what happened yesterday because she said that morning the police were there investigating my report. Come to find out the gun toting guard, security manager, and tote manager all got fired that morning. I never did get my monies back from them though.

[/ QUOTE ]Agree 100%.

If a helpful server at a restaurant brings back my change, and it's $20 too much, every fiber of my being is going to square-away that mistake. If (and this really happened to me btw), Bodog sends me a $1,100 cashout twice, once by ACH and once by check, I'm going to regard them for what they are: filthy rich criminals with little moral fiber who can't run their criminal operation well enough to avoid double paying someone; lucky me and my newfound monies.

Not giving it back may or may not be immoral but it most certainly is NOT illegal to not return it.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know this discussion is moot at this point, but while it may not be A1 priority for prosecution, not returning the money is definitely illegal in almost all jurisdictions. That money belongs to the online casino and was accidentally transferred to the OP. That makes it "lost property," which must be returned or reported to the authorities. They then make a reasonable attempt to notify the rightful owner, and if it isn't claimed back after a statutory period of time, the "finder" can keep it. While the specifics differ from jx to jx, this general schema is pretty much standard everywhere in the developed world.
