[ QUOTE ]

These movies were so popular because they reflect ideology of the American public. The US government was very closely based on Roman rule and culture and so movies like Gladiator do very well. We all want to think that if we were oppressed by a tyrant we will stand up and revolt vs this tyrant. For example in Russia they would not make a movie every few years or so about Romans or Greeks as heroes but instead they make movies about the ancient wars against the Germans, Mongols or Turks. The US has a relatively short history (all the civil war movies are very similar and boring IMO, or its the same movie over and over again about the battle of Normandy) so if you made historical movies just about the US they wouldn't make as much money as gladiator. But the bottom line is movies are about making money so the filmmakers will create what the public will pay to see. There will always be political ideologies in movies because we are brainwashed to care about that stuff.

That's what's it all about and that's essantially why i don't like these movies, not that they are told from an american viewpoint. Of course it doesn't help much.

Wow, you didn't enjoy a movie nearly 100% dependent on special effects when you saw it on your 14 inch screen.

You guys are such tools for trying to make sense out of the movie 300? Saying its pro democracy or some dumb schit. Its a war movie with absolutely no motives or themes. It was made to make money and be badass. If you are going to argue its not the most badass movie in a while, you need to die.

I wrote a really long reply but i [censored] up and accidently deleted it.

So all i can say is that i think you don't know much about ancient greece, Sparta doesn't equal Greece if you thought

[/ QUOTE ]

wtf is wrong w you??

first, is sparta not one of the nation states of ancient greece? so wtf are you talking about. furthermore, i never said anything about sparta particularly, was talking about greece at that time period. you keep bringing up sparta. as for you, i see a reading comprehension class in your future....

second, who the hell talked about freedom?? im talking about democracy. there are many forms of it, and certainly at its beginning it prob wouldn't look anything like we see today. it doesn't mean absolute weenie freedom. and i never said anything particular to sparta about being free.

so seriously, stfu, and read posts in more detail before you start typing

don't think its about America. Prolly more along the lines of "freeeeedom" which rings somewhat true since democracy was budding in greece about that time.

[/ QUOTE ]

You said it? Yes Sparta was a state in ancient greece but with a different culture and way of life of other states, i.e Athens, Macedonia.

Saw it today, it was really good

Also, this movie is as much about politics as Pee Wee's Big Adventure is. Alot of people are reading way too much into things.

This movie delivered exactly what it promised. If you are going to see movies based on comic books based on historical events for deep, insights into current events you have problems.
