Default Re: Biggest choke in history?

And I would like to nominate the 2005-2006 Mavs. Now, I realize that their choke wasn't the biggest in history, okay? But part of the point of having a choke thread is to have a lot of different examples brought up...some (like this one) will not be intended as a serious examination of all-time choking, bur rather just an example of a pretty good choke.

Mavs have home-court advantage, win the first two games in Dallas handily, fly to Miami, and proceed to kick their asses up between their eyeballs for 42 minutes. Then they completely collapse and squander their 13-point lead when they were mere minutes away from a 3-0 hammerlock on the series.

Then they get blown out in Game 4.

Then they get JOBBED in Game 5.

Then they choke again in Game 6 (and get a little jobbed, too).

Either way, disastrous collapses in multiple games, leading to one of the least-talented NBA Champions in association history beating a far superior top-to-bottom squad.

Disgusting.

Jets/Broncos 98 AFC Championship

You mean the 19th straight home game the defending NFL champs won? The game where Terrell Davis, league MVP, broke his own record of most rushing yards in a complete season?

Blowing a 10 point lead at half time was hardly a choke.

[/ QUOTE ]

i remember the game...it was a tough loss to take, but by no means does it belong in this thread as being one of the worst chokes...

I [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Scott Norwood.

I dunno if I would call barely missing a 47 yard field goal a choke.

When your Super Bowl fate depends upon it, it is a choke.

Kickers exist to make field goals like that. Norwood said before the game that he hoped it would come down to him kicking a potential GW field goal. He wanted it, got it and missed it.

[/ QUOTE ]

You have some odd standards for what a choke is.

The following is from Wikipedia regarding Norwood.

Prior to Super Bowl XXV, Norwood had never hit a field goal from that distance on a grass field, and that season was in fact just 1-for-5 from over 40 yards on grass.

How can you choke by missing something you miss 80% of the time anyway???

Maybe not the BIGGEST choke but just wanted an excuse to post this:

duke eventually wins

[/ QUOTE ]

[censored] you.

[/ QUOTE ]

AHAHAHAHAHA!!! I remember being totally disgusted with the Duke performance that game and turning it off with 2:00 to go. Come back later and see it in OT and think, WTF?

The Duke/MD series that year was epic. A rarity that two great teams play each other 4 times in one season.

Oh, and [censored] the Turtle.
