I have no good PRs. I always overtrain and get slightly injured because I just hammer everything all the time. My two best friends for the last few years were both college runners; one is now a pro triathlete and the other is putting in 120mpw. So their secondary workout for a day would be my long run. (My old roommate has run a 14:04 5K and a 1:06:59 half. He also ran sub-2:20 in his only marathon ever. That's fast, yo.) |

wow. some of you guys have very impressive times.
i guess i never really went for speed and did it more for fun. i started running and could only do like 5.5mi/hr for 10 minutes on a treadmill. eventually i got to a steady pace of 6 miles in 45 minutes. i once did a 6:30 mile just to see how fast i could do one mile. however, i normally ran >30miles / week for a very very very long time. years. until my injury. now i swim and haven't worked out a metric for that other than i swim till im exhausted. the 4:30 mile person is amazing. that sickens me. you guys are very impressive runnres and give me something ot work too. how long should it take me to get from a 6.20 minute to a 5 minute mile? [/ QUOTE ] a 5 minute mile is pretty goddamn fast for a noncompetitive runner. I'm not saying you can't get there, it just may be more of a long term goal. Of course you could have a ton of natural talent and go from 6:20 ---> 5:00 in a month... everyone is different. Setting goals when you have no idea what your potential is is hard. I'd recommend smaller, shorter term goals. Maybe set a time trial date for 3 weeks from now with the goal being sub 6:00. The more you train and improve the better idea you'll have of what's realistic. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] 400: 49.9 800: 1:51.82 mile: 4:04 (1500-3:46.27) 5k roads: 15:06 [/ QUOTE ] Which of these times do you feel proudest of? I ask because they're all pretty f'ing sick! [/ QUOTE ] I would think the mile/1500 times are the best (only because this guy at my high school ran 4:02 for a mile and 1:52 for 800m and I think he focused more on the mile). [/ QUOTE ] 4:02??? there are only a handfull of high schoolers ever to run that fast. since you're in chicago, i'm guessing Don Sage. [/ QUOTE ] I went to high school in Madison. Gabe Jennings was his name (graduated the year before I got there, so didn't technically go the school with him, but heard all about him). He went on to run at the 2000 olympics. Haven't heard much about him since. [/ QUOTE ] im younger but know plenty of gabe who still has the wisconsin state record, went on to be an ncaa champ in the 1500m from stanford. Disappeared to africa for a couple years and just this year took 2nd in the 1500 in the u.s. outdoor champ i believe. editted because after i reread i noticed i was the same age as you going to h.s. year after he graduated. |

mile: 4:15
3 miles: 16:00 (I think the exact was 16:02) 9 miles: 58 minutes I did a 24 hour run, where you have a group of 10 people who run 1 mile consecutively for 24 hours. My first 20 miles were under 5 minutes, 45 seconds. Back in the day, I was a running bastard. Now? Not so much. I could probably do a mile in around 6:45 or so. I haven't run in about 3 years though. |
