2-0. Just imagine if you were the Australians versus the Italians. Go back to that game. They call a PK with less than 20 seconds left and the Italians easily score. This one is far from being over and the Portugeuse seem to be on the attack and doing very well at it so far.

There's no way it's 99%, ESPECIALLY when you're talking about some of the best keepers in the world. With Ricardo up there I'd say Zidane makes that PK 60% of the time. The fact that he even made it is a testament to how awesome Zidane is.

Camus I agree to some extent, its cleary to easy to score off a PK. The power play idea is a good one, but if a team has a 2 on 1 in the box, as a coach I would totally be fine with my player fouling an opponent in the box if all that would result is a "power play".

Would they still get the direct free kick? Still seems weak though because a team could run down those 5 minutes by killing time with the ball.

Whatever the solution is, it should be something that would disuade a player from fouling.

BTW, Ronaldo is having a fantastic game, drawing two defenders on him every time then passing the ball to the open player.

No seriously, and curiously wondering.

It is hard to compute the loss of EV for France for him getting kicked down, so it is a hopeless discussion. It is part of the rules and I would even say the tradition of the game that if you commit a foul inside the box the other side gets a PK.
