Re: Pooh-Bah Post: Loose Aggressive Play
I've always run at around 25/20, recently I've tried to tighten up preflop but I always end up spotting profitable spots to steal resulting in a increased vpip. Not sure if I should continue to try being a regular ABC TAG, probably going to fix some other leaks first (like getting stacked with TPTK/Overpair, meh uNL logic sucks against ABC Tags).
I really enjoyed this post, especially the discussion afterwords on how to beat LAG's. Keep in mind that 3-betting light is also awesome against straightforward ABC TAG player if they try to steal blinds. There range is very wide if they raise first in on the CO/Button but considerably smaller if they call/raise a 3-bet, so profit. (same goes for LAG's although they tend to get more stubborn) Be carefull that you don't start raising nits, they don't steal... |

caveat- Know when not to c-bet. This depends on two factors very heavily-- Board Texture and Number of Villains. I might c-bet into 3 weak opponents if the flop was 842r. I'd check often vs. 2 opponents if it was K87 two-tone and I held AQ. Knowing when to/when not to c-bet will help your winrate a lot. [/ QUOTE ] I just want to say that I agree with the thought here, but I c-bet that K87 flop alot. The key is the range your opponents assign to you. Betting a flop with one high card is great because many nits have this overwhelming fear that the one high card exactly fits your hand. |

in finance, we are regularly reminded of the importance of risk factor etc. this RISK factor is often required to understand the return on a certain project or investment. this is the same for poker. The higher the risk, your damn investment better be higher. Playing marginal spots will definately.. higher the risk higher the return is required to factor in risk. the reason that TAG is a better way to play goes beyond just percieved effectiveness @ the felt. TAG = LESS VARIANCE LESS VARIANCE results in perhaps smaller returns than some very good LAG but will still have good results. high/drunk post/rant [/ QUOTE ] I see your point, but variance is not your enemy. -EV decisions are. As long as you're making +EV decisions, the rest should take care of itself. If you're on a severely limited bankroll, then sure, variance becomes an issue. But if your roll is that small you shouldn't be gambling. Like the saying goes, "Don't worry about things you can't control." You're just wasting energy if you're worrying about variance. |
