[ QUOTE ]
Anyone who thinks Arenas would average less than 50 ppg if he were on a Div 1 team is insane. He is averaging almost 30 ppg against much much much better teams, there are players in college right now averaging around 25 ppg. The only chance a team would have of slowing him down would be to triple team him. This idea that somehow college defenses are more complex or better at shutting down a talent like Gilbert is really stupid.

[/ QUOTE ]I agree with your general sentiment, but you are missing one point about college ball: spacing.

Theres far less of it in college than in the NBA because the 3pt line is closer(and most college guys can't shoot consistently from NBA range). That means that the offense isn't as space and the defense isn't as extended. That makes it much harder to run clear outs and iso plays, which in turn makes passing and team play more important.

that's his point. duke > puerto rico > US National made up of NBA stars, thus > NBA. obv.

[/ QUOTE ]Duke would get clobbered by Puerto Rico.

The international game is still much much better than the average American fan thinks imo. We still think its an "upset" when USA loses. USA lost to Greece. Greece got killed by Spain. Spain would've beaten USA by 20+ easily. Argentina was the #2 team imo. I do think that USA was the 3rd best team and that losing to Greece was just an upset though.

Arenas would be called for traveling no fewer than 10 times in the first half.

Every Duke player for the past decade has pretty much been NBA caliber or very close to it.

The game is 8 minutes shorter.

Shot clock is 11 seconds longer, meaning theoretically fewer shots should be taken.

No continuation, no defensive 3 seconds.

Shorter 3 point line.

He'd score 25.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is one of the dumbest things I've ever read on this board. Every Duke player NBA caliber? He'd score 25?!? Ban please...

What is going on here?

The college 3pt line is 19ft from the rim. That's pretty much like a midrange shot for Arenas. He could pull up all day & hit 20fters.

Also, once Duke's starters foul out, Arenas would get really crazy (isn't he already?).

An average college team has about 70 possessions a game. I don't see how (if Gil was in a 1-man offense), he couldn't score at least 1pt per possession.

He would destroy Duke. 40ppg no problem. 75+ if he wants it.

60-70 is reasonable, 80 if his longe-range Jumper is especially on. Duke's standard D would be useless against GA because of the range on his jumper. He routinely hits 26 footers, and no single player on Duke could guard him this far from the basket, he could beat them off the dribble and pull up at 20 feet and still be shooting a 3 pointer. His range would destroy the normal spacing of Duke's D and expose their lower level of athleticism, they would have almost no chance of winning the game, since doubling him so far out would leave his teammates wide open for layups. Plus don't forget the impact of having him on D, he would force Paulus to give up the ball and Duke's O would have to go through a less skilled ball handler.

How many points would the Phoenix Suns score against the Duke team if they were to play one game verses each other?

Who would be the leading scorer for the game?

[/ QUOTE ]

My guess is about 100 to 50.

[/ QUOTE ]

If Duke was playing to win, and not just keep it close, I'd take PHX -50. The Suns 6th or 7th best player, Boris Diaw, is way better than Duke's best player. The Suns are the worst possible matchup for an NCAA team. Big, super athletic, can shoot, unselfish and will use those skills in an uptempo game that a college team really isn't equipped to handle against those types of athletes.

Well the first is indisputably stupid and wrong. The second is also stupid but can't be proven wrong, so I guess it's the first.

btw here is how the game would go, Phoenix opens on a 21-1 run, forcing duke to play their style, making the shot clock no longer matter

[/ QUOTE ]

He said the game was at Cameron. So Nash would have 3 fouls in the first 10 minutes, and McRoberts would probably be about 10-12 from the line at the half.

I'm the biggest Duke fan there is.

Arenas could probably get 50 against us pretty easily, and Phoenix would run us off the court (140 to 75, something like that).
