I smoked for my first time in 5th or 6th grade. I didnt smoke again until freshman year of h.s. I also drank for the first time in 5th or 6th grade but again didnt start really drinking til high school. Most of my friends in highschool however started smoking and drinking around your brothers age, mostly smoking though.

I personally am against heavy drug use for philosophical reasons, not moral reasons. But Ive realized that theres nothing you can do to force someone to see it your way. What you can do is sit down and have a talk about it, but if you start to lecture or get all parental it will definately do the very opposite of what you want.

The most important point to get across I think is that not all drugs are the same. He shouldnt be smoking weed so much at this age, but the problem is authority figures of his are so anti weed, then he smokes and its not even a big deal. When he gets to high school or college and runs into some blow, he'll feel as if he knows whats up with drugs, and all the authority figures are just overreacting. Im pretty much convinced thats why everyone in college is a coke head now.

cliffnotes: painting alcohol and weed as such huge vices will not stop him from doing them, and it can cause him to not take harder stuff seriously when he comes across it later on.

Ya, I think the real problem is moving on to worse drugs. I didn't start smoking until junior year in high school, but I have friends who started much younger, like your brother's age. They saw that weed is basically harmless and moved on to other things like coke, ecstasy, and a few even do morphine. I think that starting to smoke later on helped me see that while weed is fine, regular use of other drugs isn't the same, which someone in 6th grade probably won't see.

okay heres the update:

i saw him earlier today and i told him straight up i know what he did that time he went out with his friends. he came off like a little punk bitch being all like 'what i didnt do anything' but a nikka like me dont play that game and i saw through that bullsheeeeet. blah blah blah threaten to whoop his ass blah blah blah have him spend his summer sitting at home not allowed to watch tv, use a computer, or go out with friends blah blah blah if i ever caught him again. he gave me this little snippet of like 'i know you smoke too!!!' and i told him theres a differance between smoking cigarettes and smoking actual weed. blah blah blah kids are stupid as hell.

oh and he tried to launch into this whole speech about how weed at 12 isnt a big deal and ill quote exactly from some [censored] he pulled off a friends myspace
