Its been a good few years since i studied physics for all of 1 year, ignore everything below if you dont care bout random crap. Gravity is a constant force on the earth and an object accellerates according to the constant force of gravity pulling it down and the force of friction (air resistance) which works 'against' gravity lowering its effect. Mass, and therefor weight as weight is mass times the gravity, is irrelivent to acceleration and terminal velocity. The reason it might be different with two people is because they are holding onto each other their air resitance might be increased. So whilst they might have a lower terminal velocity relative to each individually they will never have a higher one - all things being equal. [/ QUOTE ] Quoted for physics hilarity. If you take a block made out of styrofoam and one made out brick, which one will drop more quickly? Mass is obviously a factor in terminal velocity.

Phil, air resistance for a given object is gonna be some function of velocity. In the physics classes that i've taken, for slowish moving thigns like people falling, we approximate it by a constant b (representing how aerodynomic something is) times the velocity squared. It's a FORCE. You reach terminal velocity when this cancels out the FORCE of gravity. I.e., when bv^2 = mg. When you increase m, v increases.

Air resistance is a FORCE that increases as speed increases. In order to balance out a larger FORCE of gravity, you need a larger air resistance and thus more speed. If there were no air resistance, they would travel at the same speed. There is air resistance. That changes things. You're dumb (or being sarcastic and making me look dumb).
