Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
Mega Man 1 - Dr. Wily's stage was a collossal pain in the ass in that.
Contra (NES version, no 30-life cheat) Final Fantasy Tactics - Some of the major set-piece battles were highly annoying. The bosses were CHEAP. And as a bonus: Games I Still Haven't Beaten (and It Really Bothers Me Metal Gear Solid VR Missions - Specifically, the last Variety Mission. I know what I have to do to complete it... lure the soldier to trip a claymore, and smash the barrier to the exit. But it's a hair-ripping experience. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance (VR Missions) - Specifically, MGS1 Snake's Missions. Extremely hard. |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
I can't believe several people have said Contra 1. Even beating the game without dying once isn't really that difficult of a challenge and shouldn't fit in this thread

[ QUOTE ] beat tyson every single time i've faced him (>10 times) [/ QUOTE ]Either I'm not understanding what you're saying or you're lying. Theres no way that you beat Tyson the very first time you faced him unless someone was there telling you what to do. [/ QUOTE ] i meant what i said. i think i got hit by his first punch but it only takes one hit to figure out his pattern. it's cake from there |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
On Genesis as a kid:
Kid Chameleon Gunstar Heroes (On Extreme no less) and Sonic 2 (First kid in the neighborhood launched me into minor celebrity status) Comparatively Recently: MGS 2 on Extreme, so many Rays to fight, actually quite fun Contra 3: Alien Wars (Snes) without dying Free Bird, Guitar Hero 2! |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
Shadow of the Beast ... Basically an hour of game play (including loading) where if you die once you start from beginning. Only beat it once and never played it again after, was so burned out, but i must say i got the most satisfaction from beating it.
You younger generation of game players have it fairly easy. In the 80's and early 90's there wasn't a rule that said games had to be beatable, some straight up weren't. And lack of the internet made info very hard to come by. Oh god, i remenicing about the 80's, saying back in my day..... SOMEONE PLEASE SHOOT ME NOW |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
Settlers II (10th anniversary edition). Game is not too hard besides level 6 which was incredibly hard to beat. Took me loads of hours to get it right.
I'm still upset about never being able to beat Terminator II: Judgement Day in the arcades. Played it together with a friend and fed it lots of (back then equivalent of about $0,75) coins. We always ended up in the truck that got chased by the T-1000 in a helicopter and never managed to get passed that point. (lol, what a great first post on a poker forum =) ) |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
One time my college roommate and his HS friend spent all summer beating Ogre Battle 64, like 80+ hours of gametime. The ending was so diappointing, they immediately took the game outside, sledgehammered it, and then put it into a bonfire.
N64 games burn with a blue and green flame. |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
Pretty convenient to have a bonfire right there, haha.
Anyone ever play the Contra game for PS2, I think it was called Shattered Soldier. Frickin' impossible game to beat without repeatedly playing over and over to learn every single repetitive scene. I guess it's a lot like all the other Contra games, but I never got too far without getting pissed off. Had a cool co-op mode though, so you didn't have to suffer alone. I beat World of Warcraft once. |

Re: Game you are most proud of having beaten
Beating Bionic Commando on NES was a great day for me.
Beating Super Mario Bros (1) with no warps, no dying was a good accomplishment. |

NES Contra is not hard. You can beat it in 15-20 minutes without cheating. Although as a 9 year old I remember it being incredibly difficult, but then I thought almost all games were then. |
