Is it anymore ridiculous than MLB?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, substantially, any MLB team can win the championship by simply winning games. Win enough to get into the playoffs, then win in the playoffs.

While one can argue whether or not the best of X playoff series are ideal, they are vastly superior to a system where a team can win every single game they play and may or may not get a chance at a title, depending on how other teams do.

In every major sport every team is 100% in charge of their own destiny as far at the title is concerned, in D-IA football you cannot say this.

Auburn and Utah say hello!

Also, wasn't BYU excluded from the BCS pre-emptively in 2001 when everyone thought they were going to finish the season 13-0? Luckily for the BCS, they totally [censored] up the hawaii game, but at the time the decsion was made they didn't know it would work out that way.

We'd be better off with putting every team's name in a hat, drawing a name, and letting that team play ND for the championship. Under that system Utah would have a greater chance of winning the championship.

The pros have 30 teams of roughly equal talent. NCAA football has over 100 teams of wildly divergent talent. If you used the top 119 professional baseball teams is it terribly unfair to Richmond that nobody considers them champions? They won every series they were asked to!!

didn't the big11ten beat the SEC in 2 out of 3 bowl games?
Florida over tO$U
Wisconsin over Arkansas
Penn St over Tennessee

they did

[/ QUOTE ]

Your sample size is too small.

FWIW, we can look at a slightly larger sample and see that the Big 10 went 2-5 in bowl games last year, while the SEC went 6-3 (with two BIG BCS wins).

[/ QUOTE ]

over the last 5 bowl seasons, the Big11Ten is 8-6 v the SEC
2-5 v the Pac10 (SC crushing them repeatedly)
3-5 v BigXII
2-2 v ACC
0-0 v Big East
1-0 v Notre Dame
16-18 v Big6 and ND

SEC is 6-8 v Big11Ten
0-0 v Pac10
7-3 v BigXII
4-2 v ACC
0-1 v Big East
1-0 v Notre Dame
18-14 v Big 6 and ND

forgive me if I don't see the overwhelming difference between the two conferences

It lines up nicely between the two as the Capital One gets the top selection after BCS bowls and Outback gets next in line for the Big11Ten and next in line from the SEC east with some weird rules

this makes it seem as the big11ten gains the advantage in matchups with the SEC
Well, don't forget the Big11Ten has had multiple BCS berths for every year but 04, while the SEC only had it in 06. So, most years, the Capital One is getting the third best big11ten team and the hall of fame gets the fourth best. Big11Ten is actually getting the worse matchup more often than not.

BCS title game
2006 Florida (+7.5) 41 Ohio State 14

Capital One
2002 Auburn (+7) 13 Penn St 9
2003 Georgia (-3.5) 34 Purdue 27 OT
2004 Iowa (pk) 30 LSU 25
2005 Wisconsin (+10) 24 Auburn 10
2006 Wisconsin (+2.5) 17 Arkansas 14

Outback
2002 Michigan (-1) 38 Florida 30
2003 Iowa (+3.5) 37 Florida 17
2004 Georgia (-8) 24 Wisconsin 21
2005 Florida (pk) 31 Iowa 24
2006 Penn St (+4.5) 20 Tennessee 10

Music City
2002 Minnesota (+7.5) 29 Arkansas 14
2003 Auburn (-3.5) 28 Wisconsin 14
2004 Minnesota (+1) 20 Alabama 16

SEC was favored in 9 of 14 matchups (due to Big11Ten having more BCS games) v 3 for the Big11Ten with 2 pick'ems. Yet, the Big11Ten won 8 of the matchups straight up!

2003 is the only season in the last 5 where SEC won the head-to-head post season v the Big11Ten. I wonder if that's because Michigan was losing to SC in the Rose and tOSU was winning the Fiesta while the SEC only had one BCS participant and, thus, could field better teams for the Capital One and Outback matchups.

The conferences are nowhere near as far apart as many argue. There are differences, but they aren't huge.

jeez...I hate defending the overrated Big11Ten, but to think an Ohio St undefeated team this year means nothing is too strong a statement.

That's part of the ridiculousness, there should NOT be 119 teams in the same division, period.

D-IA should really be limited to at most 50-60 or so teams.

Then you could actually have a semi sane system of crowning a champ.

I think I'll always be outside of this because I don't understand the obsession with National Champ

the goal is the Rose Bowl...everything else is a big whatever

The only way slowhio state wins is if the right people lose and they completely luckbox their way to a championship like they did against Miami (which they didn't actually win btw. pass interference my ass) They basically will have to win due to hanging chads.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why did you have to bring that game up and put me back on life tilt!?!?
