I think the world would be a better place if the U.S. were to lose the war in Iraq. How does this make me stupid?

[/ QUOTE ]

due to the fact that losing the war would result in many more dead americans than the 3k weve lost over the last 5 years.... not to mention the chaos that would be iraq after we left

[/ QUOTE ]

How are dead Americans bad for the world? How do you know that "losing" the war would lead to "many more" dead americans? What is your definition of losing in the above post?

[/ QUOTE ]

my definition of losing is leaving iraq before their gov. is ready to take care of themselves

how are dead americans bad for the world? ill assume youre leveling me

the reason losing the war would suck for the average citizen is that iraq would be controlled by terrorists with a large oil bankroll, if you cant comprehend why that would be bad then u sir are beyond hope

Colin Powell in 1992:

[ QUOTE ]
When the political objective is important, clearly defined and understood, when the risks are acceptable, and when the use of force can be effectively combined with diplomatic and economic policies, then clear and unambiguous objectives must be given to the armed forces. These objectives must be firmly linked with the political objectives. We must not, for example, send military forces into a crisis with an unclear mission they cannot accomplish -- such as we did when we sent the U.S. Marines into Lebanon in 1983. We inserted those proud warriors into the middle of a five-faction civil war complete with terrorists, hostage-takers, and a dozen spies in every camp, and said, "Gentlemen, be a buffer." The results were 241 Marines and Navy personnel and a U.S. withdrawal from the troubled area.

[/ QUOTE ]

Doesn't the USA now have in Iraq a five-faction civil war complete with terrorists, hostage-takers, and a dozen spies in every camp, and isn't the USA now saying, "Gentlemen, be a buffer"? Powell identifies this as an unconscionable use of the armed forces. Still, you would keep this up until an unpopular* Iraqi government wins the civil war?

Consider more Colin Powell wisdom.
[ QUOTE ]
You can't make someone else's choices. You shouldn't let someone else make yours.

[/ QUOTE ]

The USA has ceded control over its choices to the Iraqi government and people.

From your definition of losing, I infer your definition of winning would be leaving an Iraq with relative peace and terrorists not in charge or making camp.

Do you recall Iraq before the war had relative peace and terrorists not in charge or making camp? Iraq under Saddam was no threat to the USA. Additionally, it was a secular state, while the new Iraq (if there is one) will be built on Sharia. It is a very strange victory that -- if the objectives are achieved -- leaves the USA no better off than before the war. With such a definition, I'd say the USA has already lost the war. That doesn't mean anybody else has won it, wars don't have to have winners.

[ QUOTE ]
the reason losing the war would suck for the average citizen is that iraq would be controlled by terrorists with a large oil bankroll, if you cant comprehend why that would be bad then u sir are beyond hope

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought the Iranian government already is terrorists with a large oil bankroll? Having terrorists with a large oil bankroll does suck, but the price the USA is paying and will pay in Iraq sucks more than coexisting with a terrorist government, at least in the case of Iran.

You should also explain how Al Qaeda -- with little popular support and limited resources -- will be able to win the civil war? Isn't the more likely result a tribal victory?

* Poll of Iraqis from September, 2007
"Thinking of the current national government of Iraq, how do you feel about the way in which it has carried out its responsibilities?"

Even though this argument makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, I do love it. Can I take that argument out on a date?

Lovely response. I want to be clear that I am pointing out what the actual question was. Hawks replies seem to better fit the question "Would the US be better off if it lost the war in Iraq". However, that wasn't the question asked, even if it was the title of the link on Fox's site. Also, you're a bit of a smart ass, might wanna work on that a bit if you're interested in civil discussion. If you aren't, then please continue.
