BTW FWIW IMO the east "should" be the Celtics to lose, doesnt always work that way of course. They would get worn down by any of the top 3 western teams.

hey guys, can one of you salary cap geniuses comment on my sasha pavlovic scenario?

currently, he is inline for a qualifying offer. the cavs want him to take it. he wants to avoid the offer by going to europe. am i correct in my thinking that he will not be a free agent when he tries to come back and the cavs will still have his rights?

normally I dont care about depth since beyond 6 players, 7th and 8th men typically dont account for many minutes. But the magic have like 4 decent players, which as another poster earlier in this thread pointed out, means truly bad players will get a lot of minutes, which is not good!

[/ QUOTE ]

This is so true. I can't stand reading these pre-season rotation projections that list a starter and a backup at every position, like this:

Player A / Player F
Player B / Player G
Player C / Player H
Player D / Player I
Player E / Player J

NO ONE uses a 10-man rotation, a few teams use 9-man rotations, most use 8-man rotations, and the used car salesman who coaches the Suns even uses a 7-man rotation. It's irrelevant if your deep bench sucks (barring injury) but if your 5th-7th guys really suck then that's a problem.

Great job overall, love these threads.

[ QUOTE ]
but in the East it seems almost every team would be a fringe Western playoff team.

[/ QUOTE ]

Totally disagree. Are you forgetting that a one man Cavs team made the Finals last year? The Cavs are no better than a team like the Lakers imo yet the Cavs will be championship contenders in the East while the Lakers will struggle to make the playoffs in the West.

Teams like Orlando, Charlotte, New York, etc. would get mauled in the West.

[ QUOTE ]
Danny Granger is a nice player, seems to me like a poor man's Michael Redd

[/ QUOTE ]
That seems like a really strange comparison imo....agree with you on the Pacers going absolutely nowhere though.

[ QUOTE ]
There are an abnormally high number of Hawks fans on the board, and I contemplated putting them higher. But the fact is, what has changed since last year?

[/ QUOTE ]
They're a really young team that should improve simply due to getting older.

[ QUOTE ]
76ers - This is such an underrated team.

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree with you, but you say that and then put them at #12??

[ QUOTE ]
in fact, they have the 2nd best 1-2-3, the best being the Celtics trio of course

[/ QUOTE ]
Wizards? Nets? Pistons? Thats a bold statement there.

[ QUOTE ]
Bargnani will regress. (Call is sophomore slump, whatever)

[/ QUOTE ]
Seems totally unfounded.

[ QUOTE ]
6th. Nets - Alot of Atlantic Division teams should do well. (Funny, because it was the weakest division last year) This team basically is a repeat of last year where it went 41-41 and was the 6th seed. Kidd is of course great, Rj is healthy, and Vince has a nice contract. Not much to say here, except any team with three legit players (their core) always has a shot, and they HAVE been there before. (Albeit a long time ago now)

[/ QUOTE ]
Kristic returning at least deserves a mention

[ QUOTE ]
5th. Pistons

[/ QUOTE ]
Love this ranking...totally agreed that they'll slip

[ QUOTE ]
3rd. Wizards - Is this the Assanni in me? No, the Wizards are the 3rd best Eastern team. (Which is basically like saying they're the 9th best team overall, so it doesnt mean THAT much! ) With Gilbert in a contract year, Caron healthy and recovered, and Antawn ready to dominate, their big 3 is VERY VERY good. Would be nice if they picked up some depth, but at the minimum this team will advance to the 2nd round.

[/ QUOTE ]
Awesome. Actually Jamison is the one in a contract year, while I believe Arenas simply has the option to opt out(could be wrong though).

oh yeah that's part of my thoughts on the cavs too. I expect Gibson to come back down to earth.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think hes for real. Not an all star, but a top 45-60 player imo.

Didn't Arenas already announce that he'll be opting out?
