Started playing golf at 6 and pool at about 8. Never developed into a super-strong golfer (only break 80 once in a while) but at pool I have become very strong. I play pretty much semi-pro, focusing on regional tours and such, because I also have a decent job and pool is not a huge money-earning sport. I have notched maybe 8 or 9 victories on the smaller tours, and I've played in some professional events, including the US Open a couple of times. I think I could make a go of it as a full professional but I've never forced myself to take the leap, mostly because the money on the pro tour is so lousy.

Straight to the bench.

4 yrs HS basketball, 2 yrs HS baseball. I actually like baseball more, but I was a catcher, and after the second year of basketball, I could graze the rim (5-8). After that spring of baseball, I could barely touch the backboard. Played the occasionall softball and/or adult basketball league since then, but haven't really touched either in a long time.

I'll continue to play mediocre/bad golf until I die...

I was an A level outdoor doubles USVBA (volleyball) player.

What type of league is this and how competative are they?

[/ QUOTE ]

Levels are generally, B, BB, A, AA, Open. Though many tournaments only have B, A, and Open otherwise the pools are too small.

How competitive? Hard to say. Not nearly as much as in California, I'm sure.

Most A players are good atheletes. Trim, can jump, hit the ball hard, etc. I'm not sure what frame of reference I could use that would make sense.

B level players would be the better players at drop in volleyball. Often B level players were either fat or had been A players that age caught up with, but were players that knew the game. Occasionally you'd get a good athelete that didn't know volleyball well and their inconsistency lands them in B.

A level players know position on court, use blocking signs/signals, can play the whole court, jump serve, etc. A players almost never play drop in, the level just isn't good enough to be interesting. Or if they did, all of them go to the same drop in place so the competition is decent and lesser players shy away from it and go elsewhere.

I had a hard jump serve, I passed decently and set very well, and played good defense. I could absolutely crush the ball when hitting. However, I'm short and can't jump relative to good A players so working around the block of a good player was hard for m. And my hitting lacked accuracy and relied on raw power. My cut shot sucked.

How often do these tourneys run? Is there significant money in them? Thanks for the info BTW, not too often you see another vball player on here.

Played 4 years of football/basketball/baseball in high school. Not a fantastic athlete, maybe slightly above average, but worked hard at it. Honorable mention all conference in football and basketball, 2nd team all conference in baseball. Ranked 3rd in state (WI) my junior year (1994) in baseball, beat the #1 team in sectional semis. Played some crappy team that we had beaten like 17-3 earlier in the year in the finals (game before state) and lost when their freshman pitcher 2 hit us in his first varsity start. I struck out to end the game with two on.

Played D-3 college baseball for four years at a small school in Wisconsin.

I was the probably the best basketball player and best baseball player in my class from when I was 7 years old all the way to 13 for baseball and probably 14 or 15 in basketball. I played a year up in baseball cuz I had an early birthday and was still a top 2 voted by the coaches all star my 10 and 12 year old year. 13 year old year, my coach was a [censored], got burnt out and never played again. Basketball was always my passion and I was always one of the best players when I traveled to camps and the such. Played a little varsity my soph year but we had a senior dominated team, started varsity my junior year, but we had a 1st year coach and I didn't like his philosophy.

His philosophy was build for the future and he started 2 freshman, who had no business starting varsity, probably not even JV. To give you an example, the JV regulary beat us in practice. The JV had some tough guys who played the way I did(diving all over the place, hardcore D) and we had pretty-boy frosh. We went 4-17 my junior year. The highlight was losing to a team by 24 points who was on a 22 game losing streak. We beat that same school by 20plus all through the years and then that BS happens. I was finally starting to breakout in the middle of the year as a scorer and shutdown defender playing 32 minutes a game(entire game) when all of a sudden I fell out of favor and found myself starting, but only playing the first 5 minutes of each half. I finally had it when we were playing a 15-4 team for our last home game and I started out on their stud who was getting D1 looks. He was a 6'1 SG, I'm 5'8. I guard him the entire 1st quarter and he only gets one shot off and I deflect it and at the end of 1 we are leading. He takes me out and the kid goes off on our 6'2 best player. We get into half and he starts the 6'2 player on him for the 2nd half, I Play like 5 minutes into the third quarter and we end up getting beat by like 20. I was beyond pissed. To add insult to injury he gives that kid Defensive player of the year. Total BS.

Sorry that part was so long, I'm a bit bitter towards basketball. Football-started Varsity Junior and Senior years at Running back, was somewhat slow, but pretty strong and read blocks well and had a great O-line. We went 11-1 my senior year until we got upset in the finals of sectional. We beat a team 98-24 in sectionals, still a state playoff record. I had somewhere around 900 yards(7 ypc) and 12 TDs on the season. I really had no business being that decent of a RB, great coach, great offense, great OLine. All-Conference in football and in Golf, but only because I played out of my ass in the conference tourney my senior year getting 5th overall. For our conference they only take into account that one tourney. I played #4 senior year in golf. I usually sucked in tourneys, I shot a 94 in sectionals!

All in all, when I look back, my best sport was probably baseball, and I didn't take that farther than 13 year old year, 2nd best sport basektball, and I basically did nothing with that either, football I wasn't that special, but right place right time as we ran a double wing T and in a 5 year span, I was probably the worst overall starting slot we had, but my junior and senior year, the starting right slot job just fell in my lap. Good memories!

Varsity baseball benchwarmer ftw!

I'm easily an intramural softball all-star nowadays though.

High school bball. I was pretty good in high school, as was my team. I could have played at some d3 or lower d2 colleges, but I would have had to put in a bunch of time at the gym and way too much time during school - not really worth it unless you love it or are getting big scholarship money IMO.

I'm a senior now and play intramurals and pickup games

this is still a tender subject: I'm almost 20 and I've been playing lacrosse for 9 years. Last season I tore my ACL in a game against UCLA and my now my lacrosse career is done forever

The last organized sport I played was baseball in 6th grade. My coach sucked and turned me off playing again the next year cause I thought he'd take me for the 3rd straight year. Then I got into drugs and went downhill from there.
