Re: 2nd hand story: Phil Laak $70k angle-shoot
[ QUOTE ]
One thing I noticed is that Commerce $100 chips look a LOT like Bellagio 5K Flags, which could cause confusion if there are a lot of both on the table, I guess. [/ QUOTE ] Phil does play with flags a lot, this is actually a very good thought. The Commerce $100 chips and Bellagio flags look an awful lot alike |

Re: 2nd hand story: Phil Laak $70k angle-shoot
IDK, it all seems shady to me. I'm leaning towards the "it wasn't right" side of the fence tho. Phil and his schtick may induce a few of these huge overcalls. Who knows, who cares, really, the guy should know better than to just in blind faith make such a big call.

I've played with Phil Laak and I believe the story, but I also think it's a legitimate play.

Re: 2nd hand story: Phil Laak $70k angle-shoot

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Heard it. *Kinda* true. More interesting is the story of the 70k pot he lost at bellagio when the dealer and floor (not the usual high limit floor, the bitchy fat older woman) told him he couldn't run it twice, after he and the other player had already agreed to it... [/ QUOTE ] Ok... Yes the hand happened. No, it wasn't 70k he called on the end. Phil was doing his regular comedic schtick when he said he "should have just called" You've seen him play. Verbatim: Phil said: after about 20 seconds: "maybe I should have just called" 30 more seconds go by "yeah I should have just called" Phil reaches into pot to retrieve the chips in excess of the original bet, as if to leave only a call... ... before he could do so the other player called. Phil scoops with AJ. (The nuts) [/ QUOTE ] If thats how it went down I dont see anything wrong with Phils play. [/ QUOTE ] Please remove my avatar. I was first, and I can prove it. |

Re: 2nd hand story: Phil Laak $70k angle-shoot
I am not sure what the exact definition of an angle-shoot is, but for me the way phil acted is ok.
Poker is all about information. And the only thing Phil did was providing some more information for the opponent. I think it is nice of Phil telling the opponent that he has the nuts when he raises him on the river. He could never mistake the chips and as a pro he knows that what is in the pot stays in the pot. What he does is not different from a check raise, fake tell or telling the opponent "i have the nuts" while bluffing the river. A little bit of logical analysis should help there. As it does in a lot of poker hands. Another question is if it is a good move to piss off another player with a move like that. Personally if somebody pulls a move like that on me i will laugh, and maybe be a bit angry at myself for being a donkey. |

What is the difference between a flag and a chip? [/ QUOTE ] correct me if im wrong but im pretty sure they are called flags because they are white with red areas on the sides, so if stacked correctly u would have red and white stripes down ur chipstacks, hence 'flags' and they are worth 5k each so i assume thats why they get their own nickname |
