Re: Do you tip when you\'re down?
I never tip. The dealers will just use that money to buy drugs.

Re: Do you tip when you\'re down?
This thread really needs to die. Why does it keep resurfacing? It's either a yes or no or "was the bj good enough" question.

You guys ever hear of inflation?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] You should always tip, I find it amazing how cheap some people are. I think it's laughable that people can take down $300+ pots and tip the dealer a buck or 2, that is just beyond cheap. When I'm playing and I see this happen I just say wow. If the tip money you give out really matters to your bottom line you shouldn't be playing poker, because if the tip money is hurting your pocket I can imagine how much losing a buy in can hurt your pocket. [/ QUOTE ] I tip $1 every pot, regardless of size and I'm the furthest thing from cheap. [/ QUOTE ] What limits are you tipping that huge dollar for, Mr. I'm the furthest thing from cheap? FWIW, in the early 1980's I was fairly conservative and tipped 50 cents from any pot that was less than $25 and a buck for anything over that in a $1-3 spread stud game. I did the same in the $2-$10 spread hold'em game where most pots were about $100. Now I tip a buck for anything other than the blinds, and a dollar for every $100 in the pot up to $5. If I get a monster hand in a NL game, I'll go back the the $1 per hundred idea. You guys are talking about dragging $200 and $300 pots and feeling great that you tip a buck? Jeez, I feel like a high-roller now. Of course, I suppose it is simply everybody's choice. I remember Doyle Brunson and Dewey Tomko playing a hand of Omaha 8 and Brunson got Tomko to call $50K on the end. When the dealer pushed him the pot, he took a $5 from his stack and tipped the dealer with it. So, how cheap is $5 on a $120,000 pot? Well, Doyle later said that he didn't think the dealer was worth a couple hundred dollars an hour (meaning $200 an hour in tips from the whole table). Who's right? Everybody I suppose, it's their money. Dogmeat [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] |

Re: You guys ever hear of inflation?
It's people who say the tip should increase with the size of the pot who give tipping a bad name.

Re: You guys ever hear of inflation?
The dealer dealt the hand. He didn't play it.
What on earth is wrong with toking $5 for dealing a hand of cards? |

Re: Do you tip when you\'re down?
I try to, but to be honest, when I'm down (and I've been trying to control this, as I believe it's related to a kind of tilt I go on when I'm down by any decent amount), I forget. Occassionally, it'll hit me after the hand is over and I'll toss the dealer a couple extra at the end of his down. So I'm not trying to be malicious. Having a friend at the table helps as he reminds me to tip when I forget.
