While pretty classless to state it as such, this is likely an unfortunate byproduct of making some rash statements. I doubt it has much to do with him being heavy, although being considered unkempt, possibly. Just goes to show you always gotta watch what you say, as it can come back to bite you, shown in multiple ways this very post. I would have thought the problem was that he's under 21. Gobbo's probably only really known to American players, but you cannot market him to them as he's underage.
