Re: (kind of LC) how to improve mental fortitude?
One thing I've found that's helped me a LOT is just not checking your results for a week or 2 at a time. I keep more than enough online (b/w 60 and 100 buy in's) so that I'm not worried about going online busto, and I just try and go about a week or 2 w/out checking my results. I started doing this about a month and a half ago and it's been great so far. I often have no idea where I'm @ in a given week and it makes it all the more rewarding when I do finally check PT....

[ QUOTE ] weed [/ QUOTE ] qft no joke. everything makes sense when youre high! Buy the volcano, set it up right next to your setup. Smoke a bag every hour, profit. You stay focused, and think about things differently(at least I do.) Also, always follow your gut when youre high. You are always right [/ QUOTE ] ive tried this (pretty much what i did for the past 6 months), but im in school now so smoking up a lot isnt as reasonable. it defffffinitely helps though. |

Re: (kind of LC) how to improve mental fortitude?
[ QUOTE ]
1. don't talk in the chat 2. don't brag about your results (that might cause you want to do extra well) 3. set goals for the week/month 4. have a healthy social life...a lady friend of some sort etc 5. find a way to remind yourself of the long run 6. don't compare yourself to other people and don't base your self-esteem on your short term results. [/ QUOTE ] these are really great points too. i find i play my worst after a prolonged period of strong success. sometimes i will get an inflated ego and then when the 'running worse than you forgot was possible' inevitably revisits you, its tough to handle. also i have had chat turned off for years now. it helps me stay detached and mostly see the game as a series of situations and numbers. i turn it on for a few seconds after i put a sick beat on someone though to giggle at what they say |

Re: (kind of LC) how to improve mental fortitude?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] and as far as always bringing your A game - only playing when I feel like it and not playing too many days in a row is how I manage it [/ QUOTE ] This is an easy way out to fix the problem but it really lessens the hands we put in each month if we all follow that. We are looking for how do we play longer and keep our mental focus? [/ QUOTE ] Some times the simplest solution is the best. Part of the reason I play poker is because I want to enjoy my job and not be forced to work. If I wanted to work a shitton and have a ton of stress I'd get a real job. So, for me at least, it's silly to force myself to play hands when I don't feel like it. One big side effect of that is that I hardly ever tilt. In the end I think I end up playing 66% of the hands that I did when I seriously grinding but my quality of life is a million times better and I think I'm making almost as much money. |
