He yelled "mine" right in the 3rd baseman's ear, not I got it..

Nobody would praise anyone for doing this. Jeter wouldn't do it because he appears to have some class - I could be wrong though.. he is a New York Yankee so he has a certain level of classlessness to live up to. Oh well, I hope A Rod has fun tomorrow when he gets home.

[/ QUOTE ]

If Jeter did this everyone would say that he "does all the little things" and that he "does things that don't show up in the box score."

Listening to the Jays talk is pretty bad although I like Mike Wilner.
I would also imagine Leafs Fan are pretty similar to Yankees fans. I don't think this was that bad by A-Rod and it wouldn't suprise me if this happened more often, except the third baseman caught the ball. Expanding on the Jeter thing isn't Chuck Knoblauchs play in the 1991 world series where he fakes out the baserunner (Lonnie Smith?) considered one the most "headsup" plays of all time, I think this is pretty similar situation. For types of plays like this whether it is sportsmanlike or not is often dependent on the player.

does anyone know when hughes is supposed to return?

[/ QUOTE ]

mid to late june.

[/ QUOTE ]

More like mid-August. He's not even going to get on a mound for 4-6 weeks because of the sprained ankle.

A second magnetic resonance imaging exam on Phil Hughes’s left ankle revealed a Grade III sprain, indicating a torn ligament. Hughes will not be allowed to throw off a mound for about six more weeks, though General Manager Brian Cashman said the Yankees have ruled out surgery. “He can walk on it, and it doesn’t look all that bad,” Cashman said. “But it is what it is. They’ve got him in a boot. He’s been throwing with a boot on it. But it’s going to push him back, because he’s not going to be able to throw off a mound.” Cashman said Hughes’s hamstring was almost fully healed when he injured the ankle doing conditioning drills last Friday. Hughes’s timetable would make it unlikely that he could return before August. ...
