MS State is actually decent. I've been saying it all season! [/gloat] [/ QUOTE ] I was actually quite disappointed that we took Shula instead of Croom. At the time, my thinking was that given the choice between two NFL assistant coaches who didn't have anything particularly awesome to distinguish themselves, I'd want the one who A) has more experience and B) has a mindset that would fit in better with traditional Alabama football (this isn't a standard criteria of mine, but at the time with the situation at hand I thought "getting back to our roots" was an important consideration). That meant Croom > Shula. I think a big part of the problem for bama this year has been too much focus on the passing game. JPW is not exactly a great QB (probably slightly worse than Freddie Kitchens). Having Applewhite is a huge plus long-term imo but we need some talent on the field for him to work with. |

Offensively they're still terrible, I think Carrol (QB) is a true freshman though. I've been a JPW supporter, but it's getting tough to keep it up. I haven't blamed a loss on him alone all year, but that loss to State is squarely on his shoulders. State couldn't sustain a drive on us the entire game. |

Re: 2007 SEC Football Thread
pvn: I suspect Bama to get better over the next several years. They have traditionally done well in getting a lot of the Mississippi talent, particularly from South Panola, MS (which is a perennial HS powerhouse and virtual talent factory). I suspect though, that Croom might be edging in on "your" territory for upstate MS athletes. (Hopefully LSU continues to dominate the Gulf coast, Moss Point/Biloxi/Gulfport/Gautier area, which is the most talent rich.)

Re: 2007 SEC Football Thread
Anyone interested in a SEC basketball thread? Rebuilding for a lot of teams out there but UT is obviously good. I think Arky is overrated. Other than that, totally unsure what is going to happen.
Gators look miles ahead of where most freshman have been in the program before. The freshman class is sick. |
