Re: Jason_t\'s flight home...
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I just read this for the first time ever. Given that they both want to receive the maximum, they cannot write a number lower than $98. This gives them the potential of earning $100 given that there is a chance the other is writing $100 or $99. However, since both of them know that the other will act in the same interest, and since the lowest they can both "rationally" go is $98, this means that they would end up selecting the same dollar value and being paid $2 less than their potential maximum of $100. Since both of them know this, they will both want to select the maximum of $100 instead of the previously mentioned $98. For the same reason as mentioned above (whereby both parties could put the same number less than $100), neither will end up putting $99 on their paper since the other could potentially end up doing the same, thereby resulting in one of them earning $1 less than the other. In summary, both will put $100 on their papers. Edit: After reading some responses in this thread, I am also justified in my response considering that both of them writing $100 results in the greatest possible earnings of $200 between the two. [/ QUOTE ] el oh el This is why I don't want to actually read the whole thread, there are prolly lots of responses like this [/ QUOTE ] Oh it's worth it though. The CMI/EL D debate is classic. |

98 ----> 99 .......100
98------100 .......100 98.......98........98 99.3333333333333 99..........99....99 99..........100...101 99................99 99..........98,,,,,97 99 they both pick 97 because they are aware the other is rational and would pick 98 which would yeild the highest return. so they would both pick 97 in attempt to get 2$ from under bidding the other |

Re: Jason_t\'s flight home...
Also, I see people saying the Nash Equilibrium is (2,2)
To me it looks like (1,1). Could a kind soul explain to me why it's (2,2)? Just limiting the choices to 1 and 2, It seems to produce the prisoner's dilemma Resulting in (1,1) Did I get the rules wrong? |

[ QUOTE ] Before I read this thread, can someone inform me if it ever turns into jason_t-related drama or if the whole thing is about this game? [/ QUOTE ] Just the game. It's amazing how much better we know game theory now than when this thread first came out. [/ QUOTE ] This thing has 750 replies and they're all about game theory? [censored] that. |
