1. you won't drop 30lbs of fat by thanksgiving, this is simply impossible by laws of physics.

How much weight loss is feasible by Thanksgiving Klompy?

Tuq - I think it's great that you want to lose weight. I'm behind you all the way. But please to be careful about your methodology. I already lost one of my mods, don't want you to drop dead on the sidewalk and have to be carted off in your rubber suit if you know what i mean.

most people can lose about 2lb of fat per week on a solid diet and workout program...for most people, going above that will start eating up muscle tissue..

Klompy, katy, thirddan,

Sorry if I accidentally derailed rosko's thread, but just to be clear:

- I lift a lot of weight but haven't gotten on a scale in a year but I'll bet I'm pushing 255. There will be a weigh-in on Monday...so obviously going from 255 to 225 should be easier than say 185 to 155.

- four years ago in a run-up to Thanksgiving I lost 20 lbs in a month, from roughly Oct. 20 to Nov. 20, by merely eating better and cutting out mixed drinks (Jack & Coke X 6-8/day = not good for the body). I plan to just eliminate drinking completely, a nice long detox. Don't underestimate the determination of the obsessive-compulsive!

- DrewDevil let me know via PM that he lost 30 lbs in 60 days (doubt he'll mind me posting that). So my schedule is a little more aggressive but I'm gonna try.

Losing it too fast almost always means losing a good amount of muscle too, which does an awful lot to keep your metabolism high and burn fat. I think a much better goal, and still a very tough and worthwhile one to be proud of, is to bust your hump really hard working out and controlling your diet(not starving yourself or even under-eating), and whatever happens with the scale, happens. The scale is a really terrible determiner of whether you're losing fat or doing well, especially for men. It's a cruel and arbitrary instrument.

In case no one already said it, there is no such thing as a true vegan. It's rather impossible to cut out animal products and death from our lives. Accidental deaths aside, there's animal products on/in so many things, like film or gasoline.

I ate a strict vegan diet for a good 8-10 years, but decided to roll back to vegetarian about a year ago. So I'm not against eating healthily (sp), just against misusing terms.

Also, animal protein isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes it can be very therapuetic in a person with an ailement of some sort.

Yes, a vegetarian just said eating animals can be healthy. Zomg!

Sushi is typically a reference to the rice, sushi rice, or sticky rice. Sushi doesn't always have fish in it.

easy there, tiger. language is a series of symbols, yo. the signified is often not confined to what the signifier would suggest. signifiers are intended to be the best approximates. the existence of qualifiers are implicit and an awareness of such is expected of all parties. it's all about efficiency, yo.
