Craigslist job ads cost $25/category FWIW. You don't need to put a company name, in fact I think most don't. The responses go to a blind email address and get forwarded to me. I don't want the freaks trying to call me or anything.

You only have to pay for a handful of cities. San Francisco is $75. Boston, LA, NYC, San Diego, Seattle, and D.C. are $25. All others are free.

I think maybe that's a typo, so unless he's applying for a job as a typist or a proofreader, I would count it as a negative, but not a disqualification.

Typos on a cover letter and/or resume should be autmoatic disqualification for any job, no matter how complicated. It's not that hard to get them right if you put more than minimal effort into them. I don't want someone who can't get a letter right that they've had infinite time to produce when they'll be making many quick decisions throughout the work day.

I've had a resume on my desk for two years because the "summary" portion says:

"I'd like to use my love of databasing at a company where databasing is a vital companent of the business."

I just called someone to talk about the job and here's a transcript of the beginning of the conversation:

Me: Hi, this is XXX from XXX Talent Agency calling regarding a resume you sent us!

Her: Uh-huh.

Ugh. Awful. Done. At least pretend to give a [censored].
