of course it's a spoiler.. just because the movie takes place years ago it's not a spoiler? that is ridiculous. it's a movie. a VAST MAJORITY of the people who haven't seen said movie do not know how it ends. revealing the ending is a spoiler, by definition.

I'd just like to point out that a bunch of us who would really like to see this movie haven't been able to because its not available to us yet. Its not like I've been putting it off, the film hasn't been shown within 100 miles of where I live.

oddly, closing out his review of the movie eibert mentions the incident that CDS is referring to that he claims he intended to write. this recent event seems like a spoiler to me.

im a huge fan of eibert too so i was surprised to see it in his review. i guess if eibert had some pot and pizza that night he would have written some serious spoilers that would have put CDS to shame.

CDS,

Posting the end of Jean Claude Van Dammes's "Bloodsport" is a spoiler. You probably won't get dinged for it though since the movie came out ~25 years ago and is on a basic cable channel 24/7. Posting the end to a movie that was just released is a spoiler. You should get dinged for revealing it because it just came out, who the [censored] knows who the world champion Donkey Kong player is,and knowing ahead of time will change the movie. If this was 1994, posting, "The ship sinks!" would be akin to the former while posting, "Spacey is Koze!" would be akin to the latter. One makes you an idiot, and the other makes you a malicious idiot, no matter how stoned you are.

Simply put, the ending of this movie is not common knowledge, you revealed the ending of the movie, and knowing that spoiler will probably affect the experience of the movie. This is the second time you've posted a massive spoiler, so its clearly not a one-off. If you're so high you can't control your actions, that's not anyone else's problem. You're still responsible for your actions.

[censored] off, and you should be banned.

1: first time i posted a massive spoiler n first time i ever was banned from ott cept my first day in 03 when i didn't realize u cant post pics of almost naked chicks...the other time daryn warned me about spoilers was cuz i posted about who the upcoming episodes were going to be about in a LOST theed..i.e whos backstory it would be about without whiting it out.

2: I'm not arguing about being banned or the fact I gave away the end of the movie in my post which I did. I apologized for that and its not something I'd normally intentionally do especially given I talked about KOK 2 or 3 months ago in an EDGD movie thread. If that isn't good enough for you well then u can KMA.

But what surprised me is that if i had simply posted what i mean to post, Billy Mitchell set a new record for DK last month that would be considered a massive spoiler and the same as giving away the end of the film eventhough the film ends years ago.

The part of my post that I considered the part that got me banned was the one that actually talked about the end of the film. But apparantly Daryn views both parts of the post as exactly the same in terms of being ban worthy...which surprised me. Of course people have heart attacks if someone mentions the teaser for an upcoming episode of LOST so maybe I should have known better.

aka I'd assume if somebody saw Sicko on dvd and reviewed it and I mentioned the stuff about how its [censored] up about what the Bush admin. is doing to Moore because he xxxx. That would be ban worthy cuz eventhough it was recent news...it is related to the movie and thus must be a massive spoiler.

Response in white, contains spoiler for movie:

While I agree with your claim that the above isnt as bad a coming out and saying "wiebe beats the record in the end", it isnt something that belongs in this thread.

Lets say with 20 minutes to go Im given this new information that Billy, since the production of this film, set a new world record. It, IMO, makes it a lot more likely that Wiebe breaks the record, since Mitchell seemed content to not push the envelope when he had the all time record

Yeah I guess I could see it some what if you really sat around and thought to yourself hmm what does that mean for the overall structure of how the film ends but I just thought it was being a bit nitty to compare that to a real spoiler(esp since this a documentary)...I'd compare it to people ahving a [censored] fit when people discuss the LOST preview for the upcoming week that is shown on ABC etc.

But even the previews give away that Wiebe broke the record but just that it was being disputed and then the whole "fake" war between good vs. evil is hyped up. Of any movie/doc I've ever seen this is one where the end of the movie was really meaningless compared to the beginning and middle.

Plus the film is heavily doctured ala Survivor thru the use of editing etc to achieve their goal of creating a really good narative.

this makes me feel better...Ebert tends to go out of his way not to spoil movie plot...so if he included this he really believed it wasn't in any way a spoiler to the film overall.

from eberts review
All questions to which you will find answers, sort of, in the film. I would never dream of giving away the ending. But I can give away what happened after the ending. Today I went to www.TwinGalaxies.com and discovered that on July 13, the 25th anniversary of his original record, "in front of an audience of hundreds," Billy Mitchell topped his own record by scoring 1,050,200 points. I have a sinking feeling that Steve Wiebe is out in the garage right now.
