Even if he is banned for just a year, he was not the quarterback people expected him to be. If he were to get out of prison and still be in shape enough to play in the NFL, what team would actually take a risk on him? He'll bring nothing but negative publicity to the team, harm their reputation and ultimately be nothing like he used to be on the field. Maybe he could be a backup QB, but to think that he can come back from this and be a starting QB if allowed into the NFL is kidding themselves.

Quarterbacks are supposed to be leaders. People can't have faith in a leader like Vick. He's a lowlife scumbag that will never have the trust or respect of anybody in the NFL.

Vick is so unpopular that no team would do it. Plus, he would be terrible after missing a year because of jail.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess I just disagree - I know the guy is hated but if he's not lifetime banned he will be back in an NFL uniform somewhere, probably Oakland.

Why would he be terrible after missing a year because of jail? Hell, he could even be converted to a Slash type of player.

Because right after looking up dog fighting pictures I looked at crime scene photos for people getting stabbed to death, drive by shot, and killed by repeat offender drunk drivers. However, none of them received a lifetime ban.

[/ QUOTE ]

lifetime ban only happens if the gambling is included in the plea deal.

[/ QUOTE ]

That's just as stupid. He wasn't gambling on NFL, he was gambling on horrible horrible dog fights. If it's just gambling that is the problem, why are Joey Porter and Levi Jones not banned for being in a casino when their fight broke out?

[/ QUOTE ]

is it illegal to gamble in a casino?

because PETA is an incredibly annoying but well organized machine. Oakland would lose a ton of $$$$$$ in sponsors, ticket sales etc.

vick's best bet is the Arena Football league

1 year in prison which he'll get out in 6-9 months on good behavior

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe federal time served is min 80% without other deals.

[/ QUOTE ]

my mistake. that changes things, I'll go with a straight 12 months then, meaning he could get out after 10.

as for football if he does serve a year he almost has to miss 2 seasons (this and the next) can he comeback to be effective from that? very unlikely IMO

So because past commissioners made mistakes, Goodell should as well?

[/ QUOTE ]

Precedent should obviously matter when determining punishment.

Jails don't exactly have the best nutrition or workout regiments. It would be hard for him to stay in playing shape. Jamal lewis is averaging like 3.5 ypc since he went to Jail.

Also, what I heard on the radio was that the plea will be for "moving dogs across state lines for gambling purposes" and not related to any animal cruelty charges. If that is so, the lifetime ban seems even worse.

[/ QUOTE ]

On that, I agree with you completely. The ban should be for the disgusting method by which he tortured and killed the dogs, not for gambling on the fights.

[/ QUOTE ]

Aren't the federal charges all realted to gambling and it will just be the state that charges whatever animal cruelty charges there will be?

Unless the precedent wasn't any good. (I prefer Goddell's system ATM)

Does this REALLY need to be on ESPN and ESPN2? It's the exact same program!
