All,

I have never had a stereo or a tv that used a numeric volume system. Seriously, I can't imagine NEEDING to put it on an even number or a multiple of 5. What is the reasoning behind this? I mean I do some weird number things now and then, but this one just seems really pointless.

I can't think of anything I'm bad about the way the rest of this thread has been. The closest I can think of is that my ex-gf would sometimes keep herself up for hours at a time, checking to make sure that her alarm was 'still set' every 5 minutes. You'd think after one check, you would try to sleep...but not her.

All my money in my wallet must be facing the same direction and without creases. It's a pain in the ass when you get change for a $100 bill.

[/ QUOTE ]

Me too. The bills must be in order by denomination as well.

There is no reasoning. That is why we're all nuts. If we could understand it logically, we might stop doing it.

No, I understand. I just don't understand. Dig?

I do find it particularly weird that you all do it the same way. Evens or 5s. That part seems awkward. Does anyone do odds?

I think the closest I can get to a logical explanation is saying even numbers/multiples of 5 are more "clean" and orderly. I mean, come on, 73 is just a horrible, sloppy-looking number, right?

I do the air-typing thing as well, over and over. Sometimes I'm pretty sure I made a typo and I'll have to use vi (unix editor) codes to erase and restart. And the screen has to be empty for it to count (must start with a cleared screen in my head).

I also acronymize sentences I hear or say. If I spoke or heard the sentence before this one, I would say 'IAASIHOS' in my head. I've gotten pretty fast at this obviously.

The weirdest part about this is that she's so meticulous about the counting but just randomly assigns the numbers to start with. How does she pick the numbers?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well she assigns them around based on their "weight" like I said and I imagine if it doesn't balance for her she rearranges numbers until it does. If she can't make it balance then it requires she rearrange or maybe add something to the scene. Stuff like a single picture is probably beneath her skills at this point. It would be more like a whole wall of photographs or the arrangement of the couch, lamp, table, curtains and rug.

I think you are missing the point of OCD. Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's like a phobia: You don't get to pick what you're scared of.

When in public, particularly in a large crowd or downtown in a major city, I constantly check my back pocket to make sure my wallet hasn't been stolen. I have never had my wallet or identity stolen, but I'm always on guard about it, to the point that my friends and GF comment on it.

[/ QUOTE ]
Don't keep your wallet in your back pocket. It's the easiest pocket to have it stolen from. Also, don't check for your wallet. Pickpockets use that kind of movement to know which pocket to go for.
