Okay I have a wedding in a few weeks that is an outdoor reception for a couple who will be getting married in Cancun this week. Invitation says tropical attire. My wife and I have already started arguing over if I'll be wearing shorts and a golf shirt or pants and a golf shirt.

i did a beach wedding in acapulco.

nice light linen slacks, with like a short sleeve mexican wedding shirt was perfect. most everyone wore short sleeve collar shirts, but with light slacks. no shorts.

also, i've been to a number of weddings over the past 5 years, and wore a really nice collared shirt with nice slacks and shoes, and didn't ever feel underdressed. in fact i usually got compliments over how nice i looked. course i'm usually a shlub, so being dressed up at all was probably a big surprise to everyone. i also hate wearing ties also, so i never do.

I don't even care if it's appropriate. It just looks ridiculous.

Linen pants and linen shirt with collar.

You're better off getting the whole linen suit, but from the sound of it, you won't be needing the jacket for this one.

K, Weddings bring out the latent "I'm going to die alone" fear in many single chicks. While taking advantage of this, do you want to be the guy who looks sharp or the guy who looks like an intern?

I always wear a suit to weddings, mainly for the reasons The Daver outlined.

When you say suit, do you actually mean suit? Maybe I'm being naive here, but I own a couple jackets and lots of slacks and shirts and ties, but can't see myself ever having a reason to wear, much less buy, a suit.
