Awesome thread. Thanks so much for your service.

What do you know about the Haditha incident? I personally find it disgusting that the NCIS and the US news media would let those Marines hang out to dry.

Thank you very much for your service to the country; I just wish politicians/generals had spent it on more worthwhile things (Afghanistan, Kosovo, etc.)

In your experience, is the military--especially those actually fighting the war--a good representative sample of the US public? I hear a lot of complaints about the poor being sent off to war, but I don't know how valid they are. That half of the troops around you support Bush seems to dispute that. Other than there being more men than women, did there seem to be a surplus of poor people/minorities?

Sorry for making this long winded; thanks for opening the thread.

The military is very diverse. There are people from every background you can imagine. I met people who had literally never met a black person before joining. That was one of the best parts, meeting all the different people.

As far as it being mostly poor people, Im not sure.
The majority of people I knew came from middle-class
families. I knew people who left 6 figure jobs because the wanted to go to war. Then I met people who were homeless since they were 16. But when people say "they send the poor off to fight the war" it's untrue.

I feel really bad about all those guys. Its a bad situation. They pressure put on young kids in Iraq is unbelievable, and causes a lot of bad situations. I think the leadership really had a breakdown. I wasn't there so it's hard for me to judge them. However, if they did in fact knowingly murder non-combatants they deserve some sort of punishment.

compared to the general public people in the military are better educated and have more money. If you did 2 seconds of googling or got your information from somewhere other than cnn this is blindingly clear.

If you are against the war, why are you serving in teh military?

Op,

Good to see another vet on here.

All,

I would never start a thread like this because I was afraid it would draw out the retards here. So far that hasn't happened. Mad props to 2+2 in general.
