I think the fact the Harrah's required him to have a specific doctor's note authorizing him to play the final table shows they must have been somewhat concerned about offloading liability to another party. While the lawsuit is unlikely win, that doesn't mean it wouldn't cost them a couple hundred K defending it, and they would want to head it and negative press about it off.

I actually don't think that you can force him to stop playing with having a competent medical authority examine him and state he is medically unable to continue. However, this is fairly unprecedented in tournaments, and as they were unable to do this, I think they should have pulled him out to give medical treatment, but not suspended the tournment and changed the break schedule.
