Also WTF is with the revolver on all of these 2+2 books lol

[/ QUOTE ]

It would be totally cool if you could put that revolver in the kings hand!

Or a miniature one in one of the hearts.

This would be very cool, and very subtle. The old revolver is classic 2+2 so you'd be blending the new with the old. (Very similar concept to the opening graphics of the latest Bond film: Casino Royale, which I really liked.)

mkresibows:

It is awesome that you made a book cover design too.

IMO it may be a little too simplistic. And the poker chips in the backround look fake and cheap.

I'm surprised there aren't more entries already, but I guess it's early yet.

This is the kind of state of where I'm at for the moment:

I'm experiementing with setting up some nice semi-opaque windows for text & quotes on the back cover, rough sample of what I'm talking about here:

For other 2+2 texts there's been a tendency to just plop words down over a plain background, which is usually easy. It's not a good idea here because there are some legibility concerns due to the textured background. Problem is if I create a window I'm definining the space where the text has to go... I'd rather make the window to fit around the text rather than have someone else try to fit their text in the window...

The spine by itself, based on a 1 inch width:

Still very rough but all of the comments are helping me steer this thing

If I use the framed windows on the back the frames will be much thinner BTW, to look a bit cleaner. The whole back cover will be resized also, I'm wasting a lot of space.

I'd nudge the front title down a tad.

It is too high, but if I go too low it gets in the king's face which looks dumb. What I'm probably going to have to do is move the king lower.

Gonso,

These are looking extremely good.

Did you say that there is one other king that you might be able to use that wouldn't be a hassle?

BTW, I love the windows for text and the font used for "volume x". Both add great touches.

Or give him a bigger hat.

Designwise, it wouldn't be fatal to cut the club at the bottom, leaving around half of it implied. Although that's easier with a diamond.
