Re: Top 5 greatest American bands of all time
Lynyrd Skynyrd is absolutely being disrespected in this thread. This thread should be locked for stupidity.

Re: Top 5 greatest American bands of all time
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Metallica = This is a joke, right? If I were to include a major 90's band it would be the Smashing Pumpkins. [/ QUOTE ] Please elaborate on why you think Smashing Pumpkins should be on the list before Metallica. [/ QUOTE ] Both of these bands somewhat stained their "legacy" by releasing sub-par albums late in their careers. The Pumpkins did so with Machina, Metallica with every release from the black album on. (If you want to argue that Load was the first bad album, so be it, my point remains) More than half of their output is terrible. Metallica is also completely one-dimensional, while the Smashing Pumpkins are arguably the most multi-faceted major-label band in history. Whether or not that's applicable here, i don't know. When we're talking about "great bands" it's a defining characteristic in my mind. |

[/ QUOTE ] i was just going to type 'lol,' but then i realized that perhaps subtle gradations of 'angsty' and 'whiny' may now be considered a multitude of facets in contemporary rock. so sad. |

Beach Boys
The Velvet Underground The Doors Bruce Springsteen & E CCR I consider these the best moreso for their influence on sprouting many genres of music and perfecting their own music. If you just want bands that were more popular you could never include the likes of VU, but I think they belong on my list. |
